Is Animal Experimentation Inhumane? Animal experimentation is known and used worldwide; from testing beauty products to medication, thousands of animals are harmed daily by fumes and chemicals, leaving them traumatized. There are many other solutions determining if products are harmful or not, yet, they are rarely used. The use of animals during testing, should most likely be banned and throughout the world, because it has been proven to be less accurate and more harmful. Although animal testing is thought to be “life-saving”, it has also been categorized as inhumane and cruel. Due to the amount of differences between humans and animals, it greatly affects the results of direct animal testing. If ever using the In-Vitro approach, the results are potentially as accurate as they can be, resulting in a less painful, yet more beneficial product. While animal testing may be considered life-saving in some circumstances, it is, then again, not nearly as accurate as of the other methods available. In-Vitro testing, which takes place in a Petri dish, is much more precise, as human cells are used in this process, instead of an animal. In the 1950, the narcotic, thalidomide, was found to be unsafe after the medication is tested on animals. Although this drug was tested on animals, there were reported the deformities in over 10,000 newborn babies. In later research, it was found that the drug Vivoxx caused nearly 27,000 cardiac related deaths before being forever banned from the market. This drug was initially tested on mice and seemed to have been protected, yet was unhelpful towards humans (“Animal Testing”- ProCon). It is imperative to decrease the inaccuracy during animal testing; therefore In-Vitro seems to be the most effective explanation. As companies begin to release new products, they must be tested somehow. Animal testing is still a very popular form of testing, even if it can be avoided. As animal testing continues to take place across many countries, many begin to wonder what is so great about it and why it has not yet been banned. Animal experimentation does have its perks, nonetheless and researchers have, certainly, found that animals do help
