Is America So Violent Now Essay

“Why Is America So Violent Now?”
This week I heard many interesting conversations, most of which had to do with hope and or lack of hope for our nation. There are so many violent acts occurring across the globe daily. No wonder it feels as though there is a desperation for change unlike any other time in history. On Sunday, my Pastor spoke on “Why Is America So Violent Now?” It was honestly the best message I have ever heard him preach and he always delivers a phenomenal Word from God. His answer in the simplest form is this: a lack of love. Ultimately, this was the news article I chose to write this week.

I also heard number conversations of opinions on the Presidential Candidates. Approximately, 70%

Literally, it is all I see on Facebook. Almost every other post is about Pokemon from friends that that I follow or a large content brand, like Buzzfeed. One of my friends wrote, “I have been sitting at this random park for an hour trying to find this Pokemon, something is wrong with me.” (Aguilar, 2016). Another friend wrote, “OMG I can’t believe we get to relive our childhood, this was my obsession as a kid!” (Chin, 2016). A friend a work showed me this website in which you can pay people to go find Pokemon for you while you are at work. Real Life. I was at Target on Tuesday, and I saw a group of 5-6 people stand outside of the building, faces glued to screen, slowing moving the phones through the air as if their cellular devices were mental detectors screening the sand. Personally, I think its safe to say America is obsessed with Pokemon.
“Nintendo Stock Skyrockets With The Release of Pokemon Go”
Dan, a coworker of mine asked me on Friday morning, “Have you checked Nintendo’s stock?!” I said, “No, but I bet it ridiculous high now isn’t it?” He said, “Yes! It’s up almost 10%” I googled it for myself and sure enough, Nintendo Co., Ltd stock is up 9.80%! The mobile game has increased their overall stock by 30% and "added $9 billion to the company’s value" in a matter of a few days. The results are shocking and had me wishing I created the game myself. http://amigobulls.com/articles/pokemon-go-boosts-nintendo-stock-alphabet-stock-to-benefit

Chicago also responded by partnering with the Cook County Sheriff officers, decentralized gang and enforcement units. Children should be able to go outside to play, and their parents should not have to worry about them being the next victim due to gun violence. Chicago should be noted for its beauty and culture rather than be overshadowed by deaths due to gun violence. If Chicago acknowledges that something must be done to reduce the gun violence rate, then they need to realize that it is time they take action and do something about it. Chicago 's interim superintendent, John Escalante, has warned Chicago police officers that if their dash cams are not working they will be punished.…

I have not joined the Pokémon Go craze nor do I plan on becoming a part of the worldwide phenomenon. Even though I am boycotting this beloved game of my childhood, its effect on society is profound and I took notice to it after reading the Huffington Post article, “Pokémon Go’s Mental Health Benefits Are Real”. The article made various claims about Pokémon Go’s psychological, physiological, and emotional influences on respective gamers. I found it both interesting and entertaining that America has faced an obesity problem for many years now, and up until Pokémon Go came into existence, fitness minds all over the nation were trying to find a solution to motivate individuals to become more active.…

On October 1, 2015 a gunman, at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon, opened fire in a classroom taking innocent lives of many as well as his own. In response, President Barrack Obama politicizes the issue of gun violence and asks the general public to help in the reformation of gun laws. In an online article by Rebecca Harrington, she summarizes and responds to an episode of “Last Week Tonight” in which John Oliver discusses the issue of gun violence. Politicians have dodged the issue and targeted the mentally ill, but are unable to correctly address current issues with mental health care. Harrington’s article focuses on the argument that “mentally ill people are the wrong scapegoat” and that “the mental healthcare system is broken”.…

The timing of this question could not be more appropriate with the political climate in America being what is now. Women's marches, Black, Blue (and a rainbow of other colors) Lives Matter and nighttime TV comedy routines are only an example of Americans exercising their right to speak against political authority and what they feel are unjust laws. Risking arrest and physical harm communities have marched in the streets against unfair treatment by local law enforcement. Vocal protests against voting stipulations and uproars concerning gun violence have rang out with regularity over the last year. In my opinion even these efforts have not been enough.…

The thought of getting shot on campus is a horrific thing that no student wants to think about. That’s the problem with American “intervention” the only answer to ending violence is by adding more violence. Instead of spending billions of dollars in foreign land, why doesn’t the United States use that money to add self-defense programs at public intuitions, instead saying “go buy a gun and if someone tries to shot you, shot back.” Or why not increase school funding’s to ensure that college campuses nationwide have an accurate amount of law enforcement and security. Even if the security guards are unarmed, shooters are less likely to go through with their plans, when a guard is present.…

As gun violence in the united states is now so common that it’s daily news to hear about school shootings and armed people walking into restaurants and killing people, we need a president who can lead the country in rectifying the current situation. In this, John Kasich is not our country’s best option; he wishes to, as his website states, “Remove Burdensome Restrictions” on concealed carry licenses. Although the Second Amendment was written to give civilians the right to defend themselves, America’s loose gun laws and high levels of gun related violence are in stark contrast to that of other countries, and John Kasich only wishes to remove the few restrictions in place. This is a foolish position to hold, since tighter gun control leads to…

Steven Pinker’s “Violence Vanquished” is an article that focuses on the decline of violence since the start of the twenty-first century. He argues that violence today is relatively nonexistent in comparison to that of the past. However, deaths from rapes, shootings, and fights are still occurring today. Pinker uses a chart that estimates the deaths of people from the twentieth century to the twenty-first century (Pinker 701). The early 1900s included countless deaths from wars, slavery, and other violent conflicts.…

In addition to the grimly countless gun deaths, domestic violence and violence against women is still problematic for a large number of people, and reports of child abuse are rampant. Every day we hear the news from a major city and the reports are filled with stories about the atrocities against children, or indeed, the weak. Perhaps the anger stems from people believing that we are supposed to be a civilized society and when we hear about another child found in deplorable conditions, a woman beaten beyond recognition, a Black teen shot because he was wearing a hoodie, a gunman opening fire in a movie theater, or another country ravaged by war and genocide, it is hard to believe violence is waning.…
