In 1973, the U.S. Supreme Court had decided to legalize abortions; since then, there have been more than 58 million abortions performed in the United States. According to Snyder in his article, “every single day, more than 3,000 American babies are killed by abortion.” Why is it that the 9/11 tragedy, which killed almost 3000 people, is still a huge issue up until today, but when it comes to the issue of abortion, almost everyone is taking it for granted? People might think that the unborn babies feel no pain, but believe it or not, surgeon Robert P. N. Shearin claims that they can experience pain as early as 8 weeks old! The issue of abortion has always been one of the most controversial political issues in the United States. In my personal point of view, abortion should be banned in order to protect the rights of the innocent souls. Hillary Clinton, a Democratic candidate, thinks that abortion in this country should remain legal. Even though it might be true that by aborting their babies, mothers, especially those in the lower classes, can avoid the financial burden, I believe that the post-abortion psychological effects will bring more harms. Although my stand on this issue is totally different from Clinton’s, her effort in encouraging adoptions is truly appreciated. Instead of killing the innocent lives, pregnant mothers may give birth to their children and let other people to adopt and raise their little ones.
