Is Abortion Moral? Abortion in the United States is among the most debated and controversial issues today. According to oxford dictionary, “abortion is the termination of a human pregnancy, most often implemented during the first twenty-eight weeks”. Among the midst of this controversy, the nation is split between two groups, known as pro-choice and pro-life. Pro-choice advocates, also known as Democrats, contend that selecting abortion should be a woman’s right and not restricted by governmental authority. However, advocates of pro-life, also known as republicans, contend that life begins at conception, and therefore an innocent human being is immorally killed during abortion. They believe the “fetus is a person under the fourteen amendment and an unborn child has an essential individual right to life which should not be infringed by anyone”. To pro-life advocates, “the moment a man’s sperm comes into contact with a woman’s egg to form a zygote, is the beginning of life”. According to Facts on File News Services, “Abortion: When Does Human Life Begin?”, pro-life advocates share a perspective that “all living things grow and develop”. A child does no respond to circumstances or appear the same way he or she will when they mature. As the child matures and develops, they become more intellectual, taller, stronger, etc. due to the fact that they are alive. Pro-life advocates argue the same idea applies to a zygote developing in the womb. For that reason, pro-life advocates believe a human has life at the time of …show more content…

"Personhood begins after a fetus becomes "viable" (able to survive outside the womb) or after birth, not at conception" (procon.org). Your beliefs make you who you are, and if you do not stand up for them when they are under siege, then you show the true weakness of your values and the lack of courage you place in them. I for one am certain that abortion is morally wrong; however, I am also confident that any person has the right to decide their own fate, even if in doing so, they are ending the future of another. As depicted above, I believe that women and couples should always legally be able to undergo safe abortions because if someone wants or needs something bad enough, then they will find a way to attain it. With this being said, I have and will always defend my beliefs to anyone that questions them, especially about abortion, because I know that if I stay quiet and…

There has been a long existing debate of “Pro-Life” versus “Pro-Choice” about whether or not women should be able to abort a child. Many people being Pro-Choice will use the argument that the fetus isn 't a living person, and rather that it is the woman’s body; therefore the woman’s choice. There are other options women have such as adoption: waiting until the baby is born and providing the child a well-suited family to properly care for them. I believe any way you can avoid aborting a child is better than abortion because you give the child a chance for life. An unborn child in the womb contains all of the characteristics for it to be considered living, proving abortion is morally and scientifically wrong.…
