Is a struggle necessary? As an immigrant and a young citizen tries to settle down they have to face many struggles in their change of routine such as their identity and being independent. Immigrants and young citizens ' struggle as they grow up and while immigrants may struggle to adjust to life in the United States, young people struggle to find themselves. The clerk told her she can 't get a social security card because no one can have a social security without a last name. Byas felt left out and upset that her name was an issue to be in the University. Byas gave herself a last name so she could have a last name to put on her social security card because she couldn 't stay in Teacher 's College if she did not have one. As soon as Byas got her social security card, she took it and hid in her suitcase in the closet where no one could see it. Thus, her name is something she is proud of and something that shows her real identity.
Likewise, Kuehn suffered in her first semester. Her second semester went pretty well and due to her busy schedule she left her college life behind. As the years went by, she realized that there hasn 't been any positive change in her life, she quit her job and gave all attention to college. After she took her two courses in spring 2004, she gave herself a goal to study harder. Kuehn was finally graduated with honors from QCC with an associate 's degree in liberal arts and sciences in spring 2006 and soon will go to Queens College to continue her academic success to live as independent.
All in all, Byas and Kuehn faced many problems to live independently and to fit into the new world. Immigrants and young citizens struggle as they grow up to adjust into a new life. Life may give you many struggles to face, but to face it while
