Is A Person's Development Affected By Nature Or Nurture?

One of the oldest arguments in the history of psychology is the nature versus nurture debate. Both sides have great points, but it is challenging to debate whether a person’s development is based off their DNA (nature) or if it is influenced by the environment (nurture). Nature is described as the coding of genes in each cell in humans that determine the different physical traits we have. For example, eye color, hair color, etc. Nature influences people’s lives based on their intelligence level. In our psychology book, it states that different ethnic groups tend to score differently on intelligence test. It also expresses to us that people who are related and have been reared together ought to have similar IQs than the ones who are distantly related (197).
Nurture is described as the things that influence our behavior based off of the environment around us. For example, the behavior of an adolescent around a certain group of people can changes based on the environment that he or she is in. Nurture influences people’s lives based off their intelligence as well. For example, in our psychology book, it tells us that the home environment and parenting styles can cause an influence on a person’s IQ score. Children of parents who are often emotionally and verbally responsive, and involved with their children tend to obtain high IQ

I suppose that homosexuality is a personal preference and that no one is actually born with a genetic gene that causes someone to be born homosexual. I think that environment influences the people around us to “try” out new things just to fit in with a certain social group, or even just to fit in school. I am proven wrong, homosexuality can be genetically passed down, which is an example of nature. In out psychology book, it gives us proven facts that homosexuality is based off of someone’s genes, DNA, and/or genetic

Nature's Truth The Nature vs. Nurture is the most common debatable subject in Psychology. Like whether personality is a nature or a nurture thing. I personally think that nature is the biggest predictor of personality and behaviour. And it refers to the range of traits, capacities and limitations that each person inherits genes from his or her parents at the moment of conception such as pigmentation of the skin, eye colour, body type, diseases, athletic ability, memory and etc. But some traits have a stronger tendency to get passed down like height and weight unlike shyness and intelligence which have some tendency to get passed down.…

The nature versus nurture argument has been a vicious and recurring one that has spanned the course of several decades. As human culture has evolved, however, so has the debate. Scientists now concede to a middle ground where nature and nurture may be inseparable. Nature is defined as any “hereditary factors”—emotions and personalities—that influence who people are (Bandura, 575-582). Nurture, on the other hand, refers to any environmental variables—friends, family, society—that can impact an individual’s behavior and growth.…

a great amount of the population believes that sexual orientation is within your genes. They can find out what causes it in the fear within many is that they will try and fix it if they find a gene. some researchers believe that they are doing this research for the gay people an attempt to further tolerance if not gay rights. We are undoubtedly influenced by our environment we grow up in, but that does not automatically invalidate our feelings it just affects how we choose to react to them. This can be from repression of feelings from…

Jean-Jacques Rousseau stated that “People need a sense of order. Humans are born as blank slates (tabula rasa), which means society can instill proper morality, and thus, a conscience.” Whether genetics or experience is responsible for the way a person behaves, is the basis for the nature versus nurture debate. This argument questions why a person thinks, acts, and functions the way they do. Both nature and nurture play a vital role when it comes to raising a child.…

Nature versus nurture has been a debatable issue since as early as the 17th century in psychology. The issue consists on whether humans are how they are because of their nature or because how they are nurtured during child development. In a 2007 article, McLeod contributes that nature is what humans inherit while nurture is environmental influences. Researches and psychologists who are strong in their position of nature are called nativists. Meanwhile, the researchers and psychologists who agree on nurture are called empiricists (“Nature vs. Nurture, 2007, para.…

The debate of Nature versus Nurture is a debate that has existed ever since the discovery of DNA, which is important as I believe that DNA serves a more important role than the environment, in the development of humans. The first reason why I am on the Nature side is in Explorable’s article when it is said that, “The coding of genes in each cell in us humans determine traits that we have, more dominantly on the physical attributes…” (Source A). This quote shows that DNA affects mostly dominant traits, however, I believe that DNA affects all traits, including sexual orientation, strength, and personality. This is because DNA is like a script for our life, and believe that it includes abstract, as well as physical traits.…

Nature vs. Nurture The nature versus nurture debate is one of the oldest debates in psychology. The nature aspect, which is the more scientific theory of the two, is the idea that genes have a greater impact on a person’s development. The nurture aspect is centered around if a person’s environment has a more significant impact on a person’s development. Scientists know for a fact that eye color, hair color, height, and other similar traits are in our genetic makeup.…

There has always been a debate between various psychologist, scientists and philosophers on their own interpretation of how nature vs nature arose concerning human development. In the nature vs nurture debate help by these professionals, the term nature refers to the genes we inherit while the term nurture refers to our outside environment. This to me makes for a valid argument because each one of these have its own contribution to social change. Human development is the scientific study of age-related changes in behavior, thinking, and emotions and personality Breedlove, S. M., Watson, N. V., & Rosenzweig, M. R. (2013). And in order to understand cognitive, emotional, physical and social and education growth that everyone experiences from childhood to adulthood, we have to understand every aspect of human development and how it has benefited different people.…

Scientist have been working on a question that has been puzzling individuals for centuries, "How does Genetics and the Environment affect intelligence?" After a study done between adopted children, identical and fraternal twins by Jack S. Kaplan, a Professor at Quinnipiac University, he determines environmental factors are as influential as genetics in children. Intelligence quotients in twins are quite similar which proves heredity influences intelligence, while the environment factor has been know to show increase in their Intelligence quotients. Both of these factors should be strongly considered when speaking about intelligence.…

Nature versus Nurture "Nature versus Nurture" is one of the oldest argument of all time in history and it still continues until now. Beckett (2002) defined the nature as qualities and characteristics which are transmitted to humans directly from parents through genetics. While, nurture could be explained as "all external factors surrounding human beings from birth to death" (Beckett 2002). Wherefore, scientists confirm that the factors which influence human behavior are subdivided into three aspects.…
