Brain Injury Research Essay TBI, or traumatic brain injuries can leave a long lasting, damaging effect on any human’s brain. They can be caused by many different things such as car accidents, falls and even head contact in football and other sports. TBIs have been proven to happen most often with the elderly and these injuries can even lead to the incurable disease of alzheimer 's or even CTE, Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy. There is no foolproof way to prevent traumatic brain injuries, but they can also not just suddenly be acquired. Some of the main concerns when a TBI happens is that the brain is getting proper oxygen and blood flow. The TBI could possibly raise the intracranial pressure, commonly referred to as the ICP. Is the pressure raises it could prevent the brain from receiving proper supply of blood and oxygen. Inserting a catheter into one of the brain ventricles or also neuroimaging, although the latter is not guaranteed to pick up raised ICP everytime. Inserting a catheter also allows trapped fluid to drain, which could also relieve pressure. Once the catheter is inserted treatment could possibly be as easy as tilting the patient’s head to the side and allowing fluid to drain out of the brain. Some patients must go through physical therapy to regain the control of their muscles. When in an automobile accident and any other situation the skin on the head, and the bone of the skull does not need to be broken for someone involved in the accident to become victim of a TBI.
Intense shaking or your head being thrown forward, or even in a strange circumstance possibly backwards, into a steering wheel, dash, or in the worst situation, the windshield.
