The Clean House brings new meaning to naturalist works, drawing in comedy in a way both familiar and foreign to any reader. Taking place in a time potentially not to far from that of now, reflecting on current events or that of those very close in time proximity. Though no location is really known, a Connecticut-esque vibe is expected in a place residing some place between the city and sea. The cast is upperclass for the most part other than Matilde, who is obviously of a lower status having Coke to work as a maid. The only known religious correlations is that of Judaism to Ana, who claims to be Jewish when bringing up the idea of Bashert to in a sense justify her relationship to Charles. Although every character may not seem to be struggling in the department of amor, a connection can be made because all roads lead back to it. In the most obvious relationship between Charles, Anna and Lane, the relationship focuses on romanticality while the relationship between Virginia and Matilde is built on the idea of two broken people looking for their place. Connections could be made in every direction but the grandest theme of it all is ultimately love and its power to move even the strangest of people in the strangest of situations. Regardless of the situation at hand Lane goes out of her way for Ana, not because she needs to but because she loves Charles and sees the joy brought to him by Ana. The tone is that of a bad movie in the sense that you don't want something to happen but you it's going to. The reality of another woman creeps up as the act goes on. Things begin to hit the fan when Charles shamelessly reveals his affair, drawing upon the belief of Judaism to justify his actions. In between there are sparks amongst other character but nothing that quite influences the play like so. The scene although absurd is serious, the tension and confusion leaving readers as aware of the situation at hand as Lane. To coincide with the dropping of the affair the news of Ana's cancer shifted the emotions felt against her, causing most to empathize with her. After Ana is taken into the home of Lane to recuperate while Charles searches for something to save his lover, a certain sentiment is felt. It is in the moment of Lane caring for Ana that you realise just how much Lane cares for Charles to be able to care for someone he loves just as much if not more. The story begins to wind down like Ana's life, more and more so you find yourself caring for someone whose actions you don't agree with but best you long
