Irony In Casey At The Bat

The Author of ''Casey at the bat'' uses humor to describe Casey's experienes. They want you to write an essay analyzing the technices of the poem. And use textual evidence to support your analysis. The Author is being ironic or using irony in this poem. Ironic/irony is expecting something to happen but does not. Like in the movies the boy always gets the girl. Or the its always a fairy tale ending. Also the team always wins. But Casey did not hit a home run or anything she just struck out. So it did not happen like everyone wants it to. There is two hyperbolys in the first and 9th paragraph. 'And then when Cooney died at first'. 'Kill him! kill the umpire!!'. Even though they did not really die. And the crown did not really kill the umpire.
