Irony: A Narrative Fiction

Cathy woke up in sweat and nearly crying, sitting down on her bed; thinking fathomless about her dream ― sweet serenades, a bouquet of roses, him...again...the sweet words, the sweet lying words of the one she had loved most. Lies and all the lies she had gained. “Please stop haunting me, Dave. Please do,” she begged hopelessly in the night wind. Crying to sleep, she saw herself pleading to Dave, begging him not to leave her all alone in the dark again, in the pit of darkness where she once belongs and calls it home, but Dave didn't tolerate this kind of drama ― Dave, the once she calls it “hero”, the one whom she calls his arms “home”, the love that she once thought was real...a terrible fate she has to endure forever. “Don't.” as she knelt …show more content…
“I'm stupid, I know that. You don't have to rub it all in my face, do you?” she asked, Bea, nodded at this, “Yes, yes I do have to rub it all in your face dear. Don't look so helpless, you're a pretty girl, you don't have to fall for him twice. If he left you, then he did, but if he comes back and regretted all the things that he had done to you, then voilà! Give him a chance if he shows that he is really worth the chance, you know.” as she ate her apple. “Oh no...” “What did you just said? You look like you have been frozen by someone.” Cathy pointed at him and so Bea look to where she is pointing, “that guy...oh he's going to pay.” as she walked right at him pointing, “you don't have the right to break her into pieces just like that, do you think that it is easy for her to get on with her life? Are you being foolish? Don't court her, don't love her if you'll even leave her in the latter part of loving her.” people were looking at them, “Bea...let's go to our class, don't make a scandal here.” Cathy said pleadingly, she turns her back at Dave. Stunned, Dave had hit realization, leaving a girl for some nonsense reason is not worth it, running out of love is worthless if in the end of the day he would still be falling in love with her, to …show more content…
Cathy is lining up at the counter when Nate surprises her, “I thought you won't go to school today?” she asked, “well, I wanted to surprise you. Is that bad?” he chuckles. “What are you going to eat for today Cathy? We have roasted chicken for our 'today's special', or you want your usual order?” the woman in the cafeteria asked ― Mrs. Fritz is the cook and the one who handles at the cafeteria, a friendly 30 aged woman who have 3 children that are both studying at the same school she's working in. “Oh, I would like the roast chicken please, also please add the strawberry cheesecake and no rice please, I'd rather eat roast with a carbonara. And oh! A glass of lemonade and a bottle of water. Thank you, Mrs.

Recently I sat down to read Kate Chopin's short story, The Story of an Hour, at the recommendation of a friends. At just over 1,000 words it's a very short story indeed, it was a fun read that really drove home the idea that a lot can happen in an hour. It also provided some excellent examples of irony as a literary device done right. If you haven’t read it before, check it out at Kate Chopin International Society's website. Shortly after finish the story (it’s really only a couple of pages, if that) my boyfriend, playing with friends on Xbox live as he often does, started laughing when of his mate’s spaceship crashed into a meteor.…

The phrase “she took that advice to heart” is a strange yet uncanny form of verbal irony. That phrase would be what would help mold and begin Kate Chopin’s successful writing career. After suffering the loss of her husband and mother, Kate, who was not only emotionally struggling, but financially as well, had visited a family friend and obstetrician. The obstetrician advised Kate to channel her deep feelings and begin writing, and she took that advice to heart. Kate Chopin is the founding mother of the new wave of brave feminist movements in writing.…

Poe starts by effectively including various examples of irony that is used in the story. The narrator Irony is when a meaning is opposite of what is actually meant. Even though he loved the old man he still did a horrible thing. In the story, the narrator quoted, “ "I was never kinder to the old man than during the whole week before I killed him." This quote supports that all of the sudden the narrator gets this idea to do this horrible act towards the old man that he always loved and cared for.…

Chronicle of a Death Foretold is about society; in particular, it explores the male-dominated culture present in mid-20th century Colombian society, and the injustice towards women that stems from this. Gabriel Garcia-Marquez uses irony and diction in order to depict the dominant attributes of men, which are made apparent through the characterisation of Santiago Nasar and Bayardo San Roman as brutal, virile, and all-powerful. This serves to fulfil his purpose of criticising the misogynistic nature of patriarchal Colombian society. Santiago Nasar is characterised by Marquez as privileged and well-off in order to exemplify his dominance.…
