Irony: A Fictional Narrative

Piper stared sadly at the mirror. Her best friend was in love, her other best friend had a steady job, and her? She was broke, alone, and depressed. The kaleidoscope eyed girl who sat before her had dark circles under her eyes, choppy brown hair with beads, feathers, and braids, and chapped lips. Pathetic.

It has been two weeks since she figured out Nico's secret. Ever since, the young Italian has been spending more time alone. And whenever she did get out, she was always so rude.

Em got a boyfriend. His name was Dakota Lee, and he had a crazy obsession with Kool-Aid.

Will and Mitchell were still single, but they were busy with their jobs. Will was training to be a doctor, and Mitchell was going into cosmetics.

Piper looked at her phone

Listen, do you wanna grab a coffee? Maybe catch up with each other?"

"Um," Piper quickly glanced at the door as if she expected someone to be there listening for her response. "Sure, when and where?"

"In an hour at Chiron's Coffee Pot."

"See you then." There was a click on the other end as Reyna ended the call. Wow. After all these years, Reyna wanted to catch up? I thought she hated me, Piper thought. She tried to control her thoughts as she threw on some jeans and a cardigan over her T-shirt. Don't get your hopes up. She told herself. She isn't asking you out, it's just a catch-up-date. With two females catching up after high school. Maybe she is ugly AF now. . .Piper hardly believed it, but she couldn't even risk thinking otherwise.

*******ANOTHER TIME SKIP*******

Nico glanced at her phone anxiously. She texted Piper an hour ago asking if she wanted to come over with pizza. In all honesty, Nico had been planning to confess to Piper about her feelings. She had been going over it over and over again. She was not going to mess up.

And ever since Piper had been talking to Reyna again, Nico had been feeling a little jealous. Knowing her best friend's old feelings toward the Puerto Rican, she could only cross her fingers that the two were passed that. But the lack of noise her phone was making was increasing her

Piper's with Reyna, and you missed your chance. Good thing, too. Better than facing rejection. You're pathetic, crying over such silly things. What did you expect anyway? For her to kiss you with her rosy lips? For her to confess with the same feelings? Well face it: she doesn't love you.

The thoughts continued as the tears flowed down her ivory skin. She slowly got up and went to the bathroom. She grabbed the knife she kept at the back of the drawer and drew it up to her wrists.

You can't do anything right. You know what, she saw your text, she just ignored it. All you are is a fucking fag that no one loves. She only stayed with you out of pity. The blade crossed her skin, opening a dam of red blood. Pain, control, and familiarity filled her body like a drug. Look at you, still cutting because you can't deal with your problems. Coward. Fag. Why don't you just die? You just waste oxygen and food. No wonder Bianca died. She probably crashed that car herself, just to rid herself of you. When her wrists were just a bloody mess of shredded skin, Nico pulled her shirt over her head. The room was swinging and turning, but that didn't stop her from bringing the blade up to her hip. Your mom? She started that fire! She did not want to deal with the pain of dealing with a fag daughter. Hades? He left because he refused to deal with any of you. You need to DIE! Why are you still alive, anyway? Look at you. Nico lifted her head and stared
