1. Existing Knowledge- Based on prior knowledge, the Sulfur and Iron powder can be separated by using a magnet. The known fact is that the Iron particles can be attracted to the Magnet because of the attraction of the opposite charges. The Magnet will pull and attract the Iron and leaving the Sulfur behind. The separation of Sulfur and Iron powder is successfully accomplished because of the property of attraction. Since Iron is a metal, it has a positive charge and one side of the magnet has a negative charge. Two opposite charges get attracted to each other and that is how the Iron was attracted to the Magnet. When it comes to the separation of Sand and Sodium chloride, they were separated because of the unique property of Sodium Chloride which is solubility. When the mixture of Sand and Sodium chloride was mixed in the water, the sodium chloride had the capacity of being dissolved in the water leaving the sand undissolved. When the mixture was filtered using a filer paper, the Sodium chloride went through the filter paper because it was soluble in water but the sand did not because it did not dissolve in water.

Manipulation- To find out the percent composition, the mass of the component is divided by the total mass of the mixture and then multiplied by a hundred. Based on the calculations, the percent composition for Sodium Chloride was 57.6% and the percent composition of the sand was 42.5%. For the significant figures, the final answer had three significant figures because the mass of the component is written in three significant figures and the total mass of the mixture is written in three significant figures. Since both the inputted values have 3 significant figures, the final percent composition should be in three significant
