Doing: This paragraph is telling the reader that in the process of finding happiness in Tom’s life it had lead to his depression. Tom’s depression has forced himself to evaluate his daily projects as less enjoyable, making his depression get worse and worse.

Saying: This paragraph gives the reader background on that in the pursuit of happiness one overestimates the circumstances of life. Psychologist, Dan Gilbert tells the readers his beliefs that people overestimate the emotional impact of positive life events.
Doing:This paragraph is telling the reader that new scenes and events can be exciting for one trying to seek happiness but in short time they become accustomed to their surrounding and it loses its effect of creating happiness. The author connects this finding to Tom’s life. As Tom moves he is initially “running on a new treadmill” but in a matter of months the effect will wear off.
