I am also sure that I would like a sudden death to prevent my family members seeing me suffering. Since caskets cost thousands of dollars as stated in the book (p. 652), I will try to buy my own

Part A: The theme for “A Premature Burial” by Edgar Allen Poe is that people must learn to conquer their fears. In the story, the narrator was scared of being buried alive because of a disorder that put him in a near-comatose state. The only sign of him being alive would be the appearance of non-decay. Every day the narrator lived his life in fear that this might happen and that whenever he would wake up, he would never be able to get out of the coffin.…

This article looks at the topic of death and tries to determine, using a few different philosophical point of views, if death is bad for you. It also seeks to determine, assuming death is bad for you, when death is bad for you. The argument of death being bad for you is brought up in this article during the analysis of the "deprivation account" - the idea that death is bad in a comparative sense due to the absence of life. The other side of this question into the nature of death is represented by the "Existence Requirement" - something being bad is reliant on existence. The entirety of this article is extremely interesting, if somewhat headache inducing, but the idea that I found particularly interesting was that of feeling sympathy for the…

Death and dying are stigmatized in today’s culture. As a society we have disconnected ourselves from death and grieving, to the point where it is becoming a problem. As a result of technological advances we have come to believe that death is not natural, it is something that can be cheated and has become a trivial part of life we do not think about. But the truth is that everyone eventually dies, and by not thinking about it when we are young we are not setting ourselves up for the best possible end to our lives. We do not think about where we want to live, with whom we want to live, who we want to take care of us, how are we going to financially support ourselves at that age, etc.…

But based on what I believe today, I find that death secretly excites me. It is no longer some unknown void that keeps me awake at night, half curious and half afraid – but something to look forward to at the end of a life well-lived. This does not mean that I want to end my own life, because I feel very blessed to be alive with the opportunity to learn and to help others. It also doesn’t mean that I won’t grieve when others die, or that I won’t be afraid as a patient facing imminent death.…
