Unit 10 Patients suffering from some sort of respiratory distress after a postoperative time are entitled to receive Hyperinflation Therapy, or commonly known as Lung Expansion Therapy. Targeting the thoracic region, this therapy involves giving greater volume of oxygen to a patient to prevent atelectasis, which is, collapsed alveoli. Surfactant deals with a big part of hyperinflation therapy because surfactant is what reduces the tension of alveoli and keeps them inflated. Patients with small PSP generally require only bed rest, observation and possible supplemental oxygen.4 In these cases, chest tubes are generally contraindicated unless the pneumothorax enlarges.5 As the PSP expands, a chest tube or simple aspiration is needed. I think that the VC/TV ratio would show me the speed of my inhalation from the minimum to the maximum and exhalation from the maximum to the minimum. According to (table 5), I got 10.2 for this ratio of mine, which is good since it is in the expected range; at least 10.
