Ipic Theater Case Study

Another core ideas of Modernism that iPic Theater employed is that “form must follow function.” The idea of “form follows function suggests that “as long as the functional requirements are satisfied form will follow and seem pleasing” (Papanek, 6) First, this could be seen in the premium chairs offered by iPic Theater. The chairs fulfilled its functional requirement, which is to provide high level comfort to the users. With its extra cushioned leather design and large size, individuals have a lot of space in their seats, providing a cozy feeling. As a result, the chairs look pleasing because people feel at ease with the chairs. Second, the express ticketing also fulfill the idea “form follows function.” These ticket machines are placed near the box office, have a large sign of its function and specific instructions that tells an individual how to use it. Lastly, the overall structure of iPic Theater follows function. The function of movie theater is to provide entertainment to individuals by showing variety of films in a big screen. IPic Theater fulfills such function, and by doing so, the structure of the theater follows. IPic Theater contains a box office for buying tickets, a counter for buying snacks, and rows of comfortable seats in each movie room.
