My motto of "all means all with no shame, blame or excuses for failure" permeates through all I do as the superintendent of a school system. My extensive background in building a district offering a plethora of supports for all students, regardless of his or her ability or background, has led to high levels of student engagement, learning and success. I have subsequently detailed the implementation of just a few educational programs I have implemented in my current and former districts aimed at helping students achieve and surpass standards. My goal is to bring this experience to the Lawrence Township Public Schools, work with all shareholders and make us a preeminent district.

Regardless of my positions of Director of Special Services, principal and superintendent, my background of working with special education programs is extensive. My strong belief in providing the very best educational experience for all learners stems in part of being a parent of a child with an IEP. Our charge of providing a thorough and efficient education dictates both morally and ethically that we do not deprive any learner of the experiences that others may have when achieving academically and socially. I stay active in the Section 504 process and routinely supervise the district’s special education programs and

When the new superintendent demonstrated a collaborative leadership style by forming a Principal interview team that included both veteran and new teachers to choose the new principal, it well-received; therefore, as the new principal, following through with a similar collaborative style would likely be successful. The second chapter of Exceptional Children discussed the process of identifying and educating children with disabilities. Though all seven steps (listed on page 46-47) seemed logical and reasonable, It wasn’t until reading this chapter that I realized the great amount of planning, screening, and preparation that goes into providing special education services. This chapter also provided me a greater understanding of the special education process at my school. For example, at the beginning of the school year we (i.e. the teachers at my school) identified a few students we believed may benefit from special education; however, it is now March and we still haven’t really seen much progress being made towards deciding whether these students may have a…

The education system treats children based on their disabilities or on their highest potential abilities. Children are the key to our society, and the young generation is what America focuses on in order to produce young, intelligent, money makers. It is the education systems duty to prevent children from falling behind in their curriculum, and in order to prevent this, teachers have to follow the basic system they are given based on how the child is categorized. Many teachers in the education system believe that because a child is constantly misbehaving, they should be categorized as a “special needs” child, when in reality, the way they process information and their mentality is fine. Teachers with children that are diagnosed with special…

Introduction While it is true that the single most important influence on a child’s education is the classroom teacher, it is also true that the school and district play an influential role in supporting and creating the optimum learning environment in which the teacher and student interact. “School reforms rarely succeed without effective leadership, both at the level of the system, and at the level of individual school” (Eck, Stringfield, Reynolds, Schaffer, & Bellamy, 2011, p. 2). If all teachers in a school are not providing high quality instruction designed to meet the individual needs of each student, then the gains realize one year are lost the next. Further, if students leave a school proficient in their content knowledge and enter…
