People did not want to get involved in foreign wars after World War 1. At first people did not want to join the war we even created neutrality acts so bankers and arm makers could not fund or supply weapons to nations at war. Franklin Roosevelt eventually had that changed so we provide countries with military aid. The act that allowed this was the Lend Lease Act.
Though the United States would get involved eventually that would be three years already into the war. Axis forces in Europe were dominating at the time and made the U.S nervous so they started to build up their military. We also started to lend weapons like old destroyers to Britain. To make worse we stopped selling gas to Japan so it seemed like we were picking sides a bit. On December 7th 1941 Japan attacked the U.S sinking many ships this was Pearl Harbor. The next day the U.S declared war on Japan.
What was happening back home? When the U.S started the war it began to ration materials, like gas, food, and clothing. The States really needed the resources to help with the war so we can send bullets and tank shells to troops. Families were given ration stamps to get their share of food and utilities.
