“MIECHV provides federal funds to support programs that connect families with trained professionals—often nurses, social workers, or parent educators—who help parents acquire the skills they need to promote their children’s development. “
I chose this sentence because it describes what MIECHV is and who the program is geared towards. The majority of MIECHV funds are directed towards home visits designed to improve family’s situations and to relieve the burden on public resources over

First, they provide additional resources to allow more children, who were not previously eligible, the opportunity to benefit from for home visits. Another aspect of MIECHV I found interesting was the insistence that parents stick with and complete the program in order to receive all of its benefits. Finally, the program provides funds that allows grantees the opportunity to offer training and technical assistance to employees, which, in turn, improves their professional development. By providing training, the workforce is strengthened and the families have access to higher-quality home visits …show more content…
Consequently, I understand how important it is to work in congruence with families to establish strong communication ties. Although, I have never worked with families who are considered high-risk, I have, however, been in situations where my expertise from former jobs benefited the child’s development. In the past, I have encouraged families to send their children to the doctor signs of an eye infection were apparent, in addition tom educating the family on how to get rid of lice the children had come in contact with at school. On a personal level, I have a friend who worked with children who had learning disabilities and we have had several conversations about her job and how much she enjoys what she does. I feel that being a home visitor must be a rewarding career one of which significantly improves a child’s situation. Therefore, I understand the importance of a community of high-quality home visitors and the impact they will have on high-risk families. Explain how or if you can address these issues or challenges in your current place of employment or community. Describe the steps you would take to make these changes happen. (7 descriptive/detailed

The Adoption Assistance and Child Welfare Act (AACWA) of 1980 (Pub. L. 96-272) was enacted after it was discovered that too many children were being placed in foster care too quickly and for too long during the 1970’s. The AACWA was to promote keeping the families together and placing the children in permanent placement rather than placing them in foster care. Title IV-E was created as part of the AACWA and provides federal funding for educating and training the child welfare workforce in belief that well trained child welfare workers will bring about better quality service to children.…

I am a good friend of the Trossman family, but I am also a nursing student in my final year hoping to get a job as an RN in The Hospital for Sick Children (HSC) after I graduate. Over the past ten years I have formed strong relationships with families of children who require constant and complex medical care. Jacob Trossman and Taylor, Cole and Brody Florence are just the few I can name with permission. Prior to nursing school, the parents taught me the skills and knowledge needed to perform each child's needs in order to maintain safety as a priority during our outings. I was able to take them to the park, Canadian National Exhibition (CNE) and even sleepovers at my house without their parents being constantly worried how their children would manage without them nearby.…

Following these house visits, I have been writing up cases notes and as well as debriefing with the social worker I was shadowing; this has given me the opportunity to improve on my communication and interpersonal skills. I have also been asking questions on house visits to obtain information for assessment purposes, which I have been responsible for writing; this has given me an opportunity to apply knowledge for practice using the Support Children and Responding to Families (SCARF) model. SCARF is a guided practice assessment and planning tool that analyses the family’s and children’s strengths, also where hardship is being experienced through an ecological lens by taking into account issues surrounding child development, parenting capacity as well family and community. Barnardos is able to provide family support using the family’s strengths as the basis for empowering and assisting with hardship. Action plans are then developed based on the needs of the family so ongoing services can focus on these needs.…

Economic class, socioeconomic backgrounds, and inequitable opportunities immensely impact children’s quality of life and daily experiences. Throughout childhood children receive messages about their families’ economic class, material items, importance of work, and differences between themselves and their peers. Many children come from low income or poor families and regularly experience biases and prejudices based on their families’ socioeconomic status. Unfortunately, children have little to no control over the families they are born into, thus it is important that children are guided towards fairness and equality, and learn to have a sense of pride towards their hard working “working poor” families.…
