First, they provide additional resources to allow more children, who were not previously eligible, the opportunity to benefit from for home visits. Another aspect of MIECHV I found interesting was the insistence that parents stick with and complete the program in order to receive all of its benefits. Finally, the program provides funds that allows grantees the opportunity to offer training and technical assistance to employees, which, in turn, improves their professional development. Consequently, I understand how important it is to work in congruence with families to establish strong communication ties. Although, I have never worked with families who are considered high-risk, I have, however, been in situations where my expertise from former jobs benefited the child’s development. In the past, I have encouraged families to send their children to the doctor signs of an eye infection were apparent, in addition tom educating the family on how to get rid of lice the children had come in contact with at school. On a personal level, I have a friend who worked with children who had learning disabilities and we have had several conversations about her job and how much she enjoys what she does. I feel that being a home visitor must be a rewarding career one of which significantly improves a child’s situation. Therefore, I understand the importance of a community of high-quality home visitors and the impact they will have on high-risk families.
