Investigation Narrative

On 11/09/16 at approximately 09:55 Hrs.; I, Officer R. E. Marrero #29 of the Okeechobee City Police Department, was dispatched to 930 SW Park St. [Family Dollar] in reference to a retail theft complaint. Dispatch advised that she received a call from Jazmin Kissey [Manager]at Family Dollar and she advised that there was a couple that stole items from the store and were heading south on 10th Ave. She described the couple as a white male, wearing a black skull cap, jeans, dark clothing; and a white female wearing jeans and a hoodie. She also advised that they cut across some houses north of SE 4th St.

While I had Rebecca in my car she stated that she wanted to talk; therefore, I read her Miranda Warnings and recorded her statement. She explained that they entered the store and Jarrod began stuffing things into her purse. She stated that he started taking things out of their boxes and stuffing them into her purse. I asked her how come she did not stop him, and she said she could not. I asked her how come she did not get one of the clerks if she did not want to steal the stuff and she said she did not think about it. I asked her when they left the store; how come she carried the things out? She did not know why she did it. I asked her if she was sorry for what she did and if she knew she would be arrested if she got caught and she said yes on both. I asked her if she had the opportunity to go back and change something would she and she said she would not do it that she was sorry for doing

Given her original statement to us by the tree’ when she volunteered that she purchased those items that were behind the tree. I t should also be noted that most of the items were for female use like the hair products and also the contact lens cases and solution. I asked Rebecca if she wore contacts and she said she did, leading me to believe that the stolen cases were for her.

Rebecca was transported to the Okeechobee County Jail by me and while there a search of her purse and belongings was conducted. I found in her belongings a spoon with residue along with three used hypodermic needles. These items will be sent to the lab for testing. I also found Three Suboxone (buprenorphine and naloxone) 8mg/2mg sublingual film, and she admitted to not having a prescription for them.
I arrested Jarrod Butterfield and Rebecca Sue Byers for Retail Theft, a violation of F.S. 812.015-2 a misdemeanor of the second degree. Jarrod Butterfield and Rebecca Sue Byers were transported to the Okeechobee County Jail where they will be booked in to see the judge for First Appearance or a $500.00 bond in lieu on each
