Invasive Species Analysis

Invasive species are a bigger problem than they are viewed as. This is shown through Jennifer Klos’ article The Threat of Invasive Species. Invasive species are organisms that cause some kind of destruction to both the ecosystem and the economy, “harmful not because of what they are,but where they happen to be” (Klos.1). As stated before, it isn’t their faults. The main cause for invasive species are humans. Humans that are selfish and don’t think of the consequences of bringing a foreign species into a new land. However, not all species brought to a new place cause danger or harm to others.

In contrast to the species that destroy the new environment that they are in, some species actually help the environment, alot. In the article, Land

Most people would see that Johnson C. Montgomery’s solution in The Island of Plenty is a perfect solution to our problem with invasive species. The answer to that: it does not guarantee anything. Limiting the human population will not stop the future of selfish humans from doing what they want. They just won’t care about what harm they have cause because they, themselves didn’t directly do it. We ask ourselves, “why should we “save [those] starving millions”?”(Montgomery.1) And they answer to that is simple. Those starving millions are people too; people with the potential of being successful in life, but they were born in a place where the right resources will not be available to them. They are forced to live their lives in misery, barely surviving, and not being able to enjoy a single speck of life, because it all just blows away like dirt. Why don’t we make people more aware of this problem. Why don’t we make this problem bigger than it is to find a solution to it faster. If global warming is important, then aren’t certain organisms causing problems to its surroundings equally important? We should block off the ways that people have of bringing invasive species in the country. We should have more security in airports by checking luggage and having the security and staff there aware of foreign species. We should make sure that ships don’t accidentally bring foreign organism to a new place. And if we find a person that participates in the smuggling of invasive species then they should pay for their crime. Why should everyone and everything pay for the action of one single selfish

Silent but deadly. It might be too late to save the aquatic animals in the Great Lakes from migrant species that have come to take over, and make a new home. Shipping vessels coming from other waters carry many unwanted guests, known as invasive species, to make home in our waters in the United States. Invasive species hiding in the ballast of ships entering the Great Lakes damage the Great Lakes’ ecosystem.…

More people should be aware of this gigantic issue and do more to prevent the major effects that invasive species have on the tiny islands of the Pacific and other tropical regions. People started the introduction of invasive species in the 1700s, but how did they not realize the effects of the species they introduced sooner? Captain Vancouver believed that the introduction of cattle would benefit Hawaii and it’s people, but little did he realize that cattle would later become a major problem to the environment. As cattle spread throughout Hawaii, native plants were destroyed and extinction became a factor in the life cycle of native plants (Info Grafik “Introduction of Cattle”). This problem is still effective today and continues to affect plant and animal life.…

“An invasive species can be any living organism—an amphibian, plant, insect, fish, fungus, bacteria, even a species’ eggs—which is not native to a certain ecosystem and causes harm.” @NWF. Invasive species are becoming a bigger and bigger problem, mainly because they reproduce extremely fast and can inflict great damage on an ecosystem. Invasive species are sometimes introduced to an area through migration or the actions of other organisms, but the main way invasive species spread is through human activities such as on being transported on ships, in wood products, ornamental plants, and through pet trade. Although it is still being researched, some believe that invasive species can actually have some benefit to humans such as the zebra mussel…

Invasive species in wetlands of the Mojave Desert negatively affect all aspects of the ecosystem. Invasive species are overtaking most of the wetlands in the Mojave Desert. Wetland areas in the desert are rare and very important sites for desert wildlife and migrating birds. Some of the main species that are invading wetland areas are Salt Cedar (Tamarisk spp.), Russian Knapweed (Acroptilon repens), Pepperweed (Lepidium latifolium), Fivehook Bassia (Bassia hyssopifolia) and Cheatgrass (Bromus tectorum).…

And more broadly, Americans should care about this issue because it is indicative of a very important environmental issue that is invasive species. Other invasive species such as the Emerald Ash Borer or Asian Carp are having similar effects on other native species in an ecosystem not equipped to deal with these aggressive invaders. Invasive species are a completely preventable issue that can have long term implications on the processes and health of ecosystems, which not only affects animals and plants but also human…

The non-native plants are actually very harmful to the environment. For example "some vine-like plants actually grow over original trees and plants, but growing so thick that they block out water flow and movement of animals," quoted from "Are the Everglades Forever? The problem of invasive species is growing and it's not an easy problem to fix because it takes a lot of time and can be expensive. Things can only get worse from here if we don't do anything so we shouldn't ignore these invasive species. A lot of invasive species are here because of us, if we don't help and take action quickly then the problem can only get worse, and humans can be affected by the non-native species. We can help but not being so careless, finding a way to slow down spreading, monitoring invasive species, and do more…

Invasive species sound like nothing, right? Like plants and animals that threaten to destroy our native wildlands are no big deal. Well, it’s a very big deal, and invasive species are a tremendously real threat to the U.S. Humans introduced invasive species to the United States, and with the damage that they do, it is vital that we stop them. “1) non-native (or alien) to the ecosystem under consideration and 2) whose introduction causes or is likely to cause economic or environmental harm or harm to human health ,” is the official definition of invasive species from the USDA.…

It claims lives, homes and space from not just humankind, but also from animals, and from the very earth we live on. I am talking, of course, about overpopulation. Introduction Southwest Florida's ecosystem consists of warm temperate waters and a subtropical climate that attracts the majority of the generalist species. Generalist species are species that can adapt to a variety of locations without needing certain foods to eat or certain climates to survive in. Attracting generalist species that do not belong a part of Southwest Florida's ecosystem concludes in an unbalanced environmental system. My interest in this topic was the certitude that if we continue to surmise that this issue will not affect us, it will cease in an extremely negative way. It is crucial to inflate the effects invasive species have on our ecosystem to prevent any more harm to the environment.…

For several thousands of years, humans and other living species have coexisted together, but as the human population continues to dramatically increase, the need for an extraneous amount of resources does as well. Over the past two decades, the human impact on wildlife is easily seen worldwide. Forests have been diminishing at an alarming rate. Deforestation is becoming more of a problem each day. Due to deforestation, biodiversity is decreasing, habitats are being severely polluted, and inhabitants of the forest are being forced out of their comfort zone.…
