Saving lives and learning about the heart is very dear to me. I want to make a difference and I want to help, I feel that the invasive cardiovascular profession will help me achieve that goal. 3. Imagine yourself in the cardiology department what strengths do you bring that will assist you in reaching your goal as a Cardiovascular professional? There are many strengths I can bring that will assist me in achieving my professional cardiovascular goals. My first strength is teamwork. Teamwork is unity, cooperation, equality, communication, and hard-work. This was a concept I learned in high school with student council, prom committee, and yearbook. Oftentimes we used teamwork to solve problems and disputes and we used the power of each other to always get things done. As a representative and officer I strived to make teamwork proactive and appreciated. My current job also facilitates teamwork. On average we serve over 9,000 people at Shady Maple on a Saturday. It requires professionals who are capable of performing cardiac catheterizations, intravenous injections, angioplasty and stent procedures, cardiac life support, etc., correctly and accurately (Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs, 2009). The goal of a Cardiovascular Technician is to provide care before, during, and after procedures, to administer physician ordered medications, to evaluate patient’s ongoing health, and to assist and perform approved and appropriate cardiac procedures. A technician must always place a patient first and should always act professionally… both at work and away (Carnegie Institute, 2014). An invasive cardiovascular technician can maintain credentialing and education with the help of many organizations. These organizations include the American Heart Association, the Alliance of Cardiovascular Professionals, and the Society of Invasive Cardiovascular Professionals. Although I originally chose Dental Hygiene as my major, I quickly realized that it wasn’t for me. Shadowing as a Dental Hygienist was enlightening, but it never offered new situations or experiences. After researching and talking with friends I realized that Invasive Cardiovascular Technology is for me.
