Understanding the inspiration of Scripture is vital to understanding how the Bible that we have came into being. There are several different theories as to how the Bible was inspired, such as the dynamic and verbal theories. According to Millard J. Erickson in his book, “Introducing Christian Doctrine”, the dynamic theory “emphasizes the combination of divine and human elements in the process of inspiration and of the writing of the Bible”, while the verbal theory “insists that the Holy Spirit’s influence extends beyond the direction of thoughts to the selection of words used to convey the message.” Of the many theories, these two are the ones that make the most sense to me, and I have had a hard time deciding between the two, but after further …show more content…
Proposition Three in “The Doctrine of Revelation: Authority” PowerPoint details that “Its [The Bible] authority does not require the recognition and/or respect of an individual or society.” (slide 10) Simply because someone does not believe that the Bible is authoritative does not make it any less authoritative. The power and authority of Scripture is apparent throughout the Bible. Jesus, and then the New Testament authors all reference back to Old Testament Scriptures to prove that Jesus is the Messiah. Paul explain in Romans 10:17 that “Faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the Word of Christ.” (NASB) We come to faith in Jesus by having our ears opened to hearing the Word of God. “The Holy Scripture brings us God’s presence and leads us to understand the written revelation.” (Summary of the Doctrine of Holy Scripture.
