Motivation takes many forms that all have mental processes that direct a person’s behavior. Motives are “internal dispositions to act in certain ways, although they can be influenced by multiple factors, both internal and external”. The psychological definition of motivation is “all process involved in starting, directing, and maintaining physical and psychological activities”. There are four different types of motivation. Two I’ve already mentioned which are intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. The psychological definition for intrinsic motivation is “a desire to engage in an activity for it’s own sake and for extrinsic motivation it’s a desire to engage in an activity to achieve an external consequence”. The other two types of motivation is conscious motivation which is “having the desire to engage in an activity and being aware of the desire”, while unconscious motivation is the exact opposite. Psychologists use two main forms of treatment which are the insight therapies and the behavioral therapies. There are five different types of insight therapies but I’ll only focus on psychoanalysis and humanistic therapies. Psychoanalysis is “the form of psychodynamic therapy developed by Sigmund Freud”, along with psychoanalysis there is something called analysis of transference. Analyzing of transference is “analyzing and interpreting the patient’s relationship with the therapist, based on the assumption that this relationship mirrors unresolved conflicts in the patient’s past”, for example in the book “The Short and Tragic Life of Robert Peace” Robert dealt with a lot of issues in the past that were drug related and not having his father in his life. He went to a private affordable high school and ended up getting accepted into Yale. But he did not finish school and ended up being killed due to him reconnecting to the negative
