An additional level of theater lies on the community that is formed by a cast. All cast members are supposed to act the way they think their character would act. An aspect of this is the intrapersonal relationships they must understand between their characters and other characters. The actor playing the Phantom, in The Phantom of the Opera, has to have an intrapersonal relationship with Christine, Raoul, Carlotta, Madame Giry and many other cast members/characters. However, as with the personal understanding of the character, the intrapersonal relationships between characters are not set in stone. They are again interpretations of relationships. This level is largely online due to the large number of musical theater fans that use Tumblr and other online forums. A recent example of this is the fandom of Hamilton. Hamilton quickly became a pop culture phenomena in 2016, and with it grew a large fandom. The fandom has created fanfiction, art pieces, revisions of songs, among other works. These have, in turn, inspired many of the original artists and new artists to revise and evolve the original work. The Hamilton Mixtape features artists that sing the original songs in different styles, tones, intonation, and vocal parts than the original actors. They evolved the original work by showing it in a different manner. Another way Hamilton uses it’s fandom to evolve the original piece is Ham4Ham. These are free sidewalk performances outside of Hamilton’s theater done by the cast members. They interact with fans and often do impromptu sing along competitions. The rap battles within the storyline easily evoke the fandom to participate and give feedback. It also has been known to see some of the feedback to make it onto the stage. Actors will emphasize certain parts of the song differently based on the fans response to it in the previous day’s Ham4Ham.
