Since a very young age chris was a lover of nature and liked to explore. Even though he grew up in a wealthy family chris did not care for his family’s money or any materialistic items that pertained to society. Chris’ thought that money would taint people because it could make them change. Chris read many different authors that could have helped him to form his ideas more, many of the books he read involved nature. One of the passages that he had in a book said that “Wilderness appealed to those bored or disgusted with man and his works”(157) this shows that chris really disliked what society was starting to become and what it was doing with materialistic items. Since chris went into the wild find truth that also involved in finding himself which he did. In the back of one of the books he wrote that “I am reborn. This is my dawn. Real life has just begun. Deliberate living”(168) by going into the wild he was able to spend time with himself and figure out who he was as a person. Being in the wild without the interruption of civilization let him become a new person and learn how to live with a purpose. Jack london was probably one of chris biggest influences even saying he was king, one of the sentences from london’s books states that “They were not half living, or quarter living. They were simply so many bag of bones in which sparks of life
