Chris McCandless was a pretty smart, intelligent guy but made a big mistake that made him lose his life. McCandless could’ve lived longer or even have had a better life if he gathered some information about what to expect in Alaska or if he would of just stayed home. It seems like the hard worker, studious, very smart guy people knew at college was a different guy than the one that died in Alaska. If Chris would had made a bit of research before heading to Alaska he would have come back alive if everything was as planned from the start. Chris really didn’t think things throw. He doesn’t know how to deal with new obstacle in his life. His thought that he could get way from facing the truth by running away from it, therefore he went to Alaska.

He didn’t want to face the fact that his family was hiding a secret from him for a very long time. By the time Chris found out about his dad’s afire it was too late for Chris’ dad to explain to him, “When Walt’s double life came to light the revelations inflicted deep wounds” (pg 121). After Chris found out about his father’s double life and his mom being okay with it, really did affect and destroyed him. He thought the only way to handle this situation was by escaping to Alaska. Chris was really hurt by the idea of his dad having a second family at the same time he was Chris’ mom,” According to Billie,” He seemed mad at us more often, and he become more withdrawn – no… he wouldn’t tell us what was on his mind an spent more time by himself” (pg 121). No body tried to reach out to Chris when he really needed a friend or someone to talk to.
