Obviously, Chris had trouble understanding how Walt could live a double-life, having many children that intertwined back and forth between two women. Krakauer gradually reveals aspects of Chris’s life throughout the story. Krakauer eventually interacts with the McCandless family, furthering the emotional themes. Those that argue against Chris’s expedition, stating it was irresponsible and stupid, seem to be uneducated as to why Chris had departed in the first place. Chris felt a feeling of regret towards his childhood, unfortunately due to his father’s secret double life.
