Buck lived in the Santa Clara Valley. It was called Judge Miller’s place. Buck, a strong as an ox, dog, weighed 140 pounds. He was a strong dog, yet he was a soft, gentle, inside dog. His parents were Elmo, a ginormous St. Bernard, and Shep, a Scotch shepherd dog. He was four when he was taken away to Alaska with people who had bought him from Manuel, who stole the dog while the family was doing other things. Buck had fought lots of dogs in his time so far, most being successful.
Buck was taken by Manuel when his owners were away doing other things, like organizing an athletic club. He was then sold to someone going to Alaska to look for gold, probably to sell for money. On his way up, he was abused many times. He got choked multiple times,
