Into The Beautiful North Characters

The characters in this novel have many obstacles that they face all throughout the book. The novel Into the Beautiful North by Luis Alberto Urrea the characters Tacho, Nayeli, Don Porfirio, Doña Araceli, Atómiko, and others all face cruelness because of different reasons. For example Tacho is gay, so he faces different obstacles than Atomikos who was raised in the dumps.
For example, Tacho is one of the main characters that face many obstacles. The beginning of the book talks about how Tacho is one of the few men left in the town after most of the men left to go find work in the United States. Tacho owns a restaurant called the fallen hand which makes sense because he is gay. He is the only gay guy in this novel and has many obstacles because of it. One instance on their way to the border they stopped at the station. There the FeFe called Tacho a “male prostitute” and a “Faggot” multiple times (Urrea 81). He forced Tacho to go to the bathroom with him, and there he called him a “dirty little faggot” and

Given that he is provided with the most character development, his story is naturally the most intriguing; however, from this stems one of the novels shortcomings. Being only 270 pages, there doesn’t appear to be enough time permitted to allow the other characters stories to unfold smoothly. By the time the reader begins to become invested in the plot and familiar with the characters, the novel reaches its conclusion. This came to be a disappointment as the book would have been greatly improved if the author had lengthened it to allow a deeper understanding to be had of the main characters. Additionally, the way that García moves from the three plots as well as how she moves to and from important events is problematic.…
