Woman convicted of homicide are treated differently in the criminal justice system. The definition of homicide according to dictionary.com “is a deliberate and unlawful act of killing of a person by another person. Homicides are criminal, excusable and justifiable”. The woman are portrayed differently in the sentencing stage is due to the fact woman experience dissimilar life events and this forces them to break the law. The relevant factors of sentencing of woman convicted of homicide are: legal factors such as; criminal record, mental health, number of those involved and physical and emotional abuse (Dawson, 2004, pg.21).
