APA lets the reader know about the sources and gives them credit. The purpose of an intext citation is to give credit to the source. The reader will see the in-text citation and see where you got the information and the reader will decide whether that source is reliable or not. You should always cite a source when you are quoting, using an idea, stating an opinion or fact. “Megan McArdle explains in this article that more than half of the students that graduate can’t find a job. “More than half of all recent graduates are unemployed or in jobs that do not require a degree, and the amount of student-loan debt carried by households has more than quintupled since 1999.” She explains that you’re not going to be more hirable just because you have a college degree.” I used the authors name and then I directly quoted her in this, although I did not include a page number because there wasn’t a page number for this article. “Effectively, we’ve treated the average wage premium as if it were a guarantee and then we’ve encouraged college students to borrow against it” (2012).” I wanted to directly quote this information from the article to use it on my assignment to help me explain something. I decided to fix this because it wasn’t in correct APA format. I had to add the in-text citation because I did not have it before, so I had to add it.
