Decompression can be done in one of two ways, one using a colonoscopy or the other, through a surgical opening in the cecum (NIDDK, 2014). Acute intestinal pseudo obstruction can get better over the course of time if diagnosed early and treated properly. Chronic intestinal pseudo obstruction can progressively get worse and or lead to death even while going through vigorous treatment. Acute and chronic intestinal pseudo obstruction are not curable, only treatable to relieve the symptoms and to hopefully stop the disease from progressing (MedlinePlus, 2014).
