Arvind Ashok Interview Essay

I had the pleasure of interviewing Arvind Ashok on Tuesday, January 19th at Starbucks in Round Rock, Texas for about forty minutes. Throughout our conversation, he struck me as a young man who while seeming terse and systematic in his answers, was authentic in his thirst for learning inside and outside the classroom and his skill as an on point communicator was present throughout the interview. Arvind grew up in a house with books of all types, which he soon learned were fun and took them in from an early age. The discourse around politics and economics fostered his interest early, and he was driven to communicate what he knew with others. This yearning for discussion drove him toward his active participation activities such as debate, DECA entrepreneurship competition, and student council. Arvind is well rounded academically, although he wasn’t as gifted as his friend in advanced math topics. So Arvind took up the task using his interests in economics to inform the group about their proposed project which gave him the connection he needed to think outside the box and absorb the necessary information in math that he needed to be an effective contributor.

Arvind eyes brightened when I engaged him on his interests in the arts. He discussed the fluidity and range of emotion in musician Kanye West’s album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and the multitude of phases drawn out of the protagonist of Donna Tartt’s novel The Goldfinch focusing on the takeaway that art is beautiful because of the struggle leading up to the
