1. At first, the little boy in the story (Laurie) is good and sweet, but as soon as he starts kindergarten, he is rude and starts acting out. Some of the things that Laurie says that are disrespectful to his father are as follow: “ I didn’t learn nothing,” (73) he said to his father. Certainly, it was impolite Laurie to answer his father this way. Laurie said: “Look at my thumb. Gee, you’re dumb” (74) Moreover, Laurie was imprudent to use such words to his father. Meanwhile, as Laurie climbs the chair he said to his father: Hi, Pop, y’ old dust mop” (74). However,Laurie used insulting words to his father that a normal and a respective child would not use such words. In my opinion, Laurie talked so much about Charles as he was covering up from the family that they may not know he was the one. He used Charles in developing his bad behavior toward everyone. Though some bad characters could be clearly seen by his parents that nobody corrected him. Laurie did not care much about his studies for he was not ready to learn or listen to anyone. Conscequently, he demostrates sippoteniously what charles did and the punishments he was given in the school. His parents did not take a step quickly of what was happening to him. In additon, they did not correct him for they were eger to know what Charles did every time. Laurie was happy for his parent intertain him to contiue to talk about Charles. Laurie had developed mentale problems that he need to helped by his

The relationship between the children and Grant is quite unique. Whenever Grant disapproves of what his students are doing, he hits them harshly. One time, he even “slashed [a student] hard across the butt with the Westcott ruler” (Gaines 35). This is clearly not the norm for today’s society, but it was the norm around the 1940’s. Using violence to solve a student’s behaviour can affect how a student behaves in a negative way.…

In Chapter One of Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry, Mildred Taylor depicts Little Man as a boy who wants to be clean, representing his wanted equality and fairness in society. Little Man expresses his hatred for the insult to his race in his tattered book and stomps on it, refusing to use it “his face clouded, changing from sulky acceptance to puzzlement.. [he flung] the book onto the floor and [stomped] madly on it” (ROTHMC 24). The teacher, Miss Crocker, does not agree with his behavior, though it was ethical, which leads to him getting a whipping.…

Conventional Meets Interesting Gryphons, or griffons, are mythological creatures with the head and wings of an eagle and the body of a lion. This new substitute teacher comes in and disregards everything that the class had learned and done before that. Within the few days that she is there, she goes on to tell the class wild things about mythological creatures and angles that she claimed to have seen which made me think that she was kind of crazy. When an author writes with symbolism it is up to the reader to apply Psychological Criticism in order to interpret the images used with symbolism. The author disguises their emotions through symbolism. Typically these symbols represent something much deeper within the character.
