A Family Interview

Improved Essays
For the family interview, I decided to meet with one of my friends to interview her about her family. We started by focusing on her whole family tree, including all of her aunts, uncles, and cousins. After we went over the entire family, I asked her questions about the members she has a significant relationship with and asked about their education, occupation, interests, health problems, and friendships. The person that I interviewed is in a serious relationship, so we went over her partner’s family and I asked the same questions about her partner’s family. After finding out the family tree for both the interviewee and her partner, I asked about communities and organizations that they are a part of. This includes school, work, religious organizations, clubs, friendships and other outside communities.

Even though there were many strengths, there were also limitations to the interview process as well. This was my first family assessment, so I may have appeared nervous at first. Melissa, Scott and Sarah were at home when I came for the interview, so I was able to observe interactions among them; however, Megan wasn’t home at the time so I was unable to observe interactions among her and her family members. When interviewing, I found it difficult to ask questions about death of family members because I feared that this would cause an unexpected emotional response; however, I utilized communication techniques I have learned in the past and Melissa was very responsive and it did not seem to affect her…
