Interview With Shewit

Interviewing a person from another culture can bring you closer together in my opinion. The person I interviewed was a young woman named Shewit. I learned so many different things about her cultural background it was super cool. Her ethnic heritage was some Eritrean and/or East African. Shewit’s family generation goes as far back as her grandparents, this makes her and her sisters the first born into the United States in her family. She told me that was something unique about herself. When it comes to who’s the dominating figure in her family she considers her father as dominant because to her he’s the only sibling living in America while his other brothers are in Eritrean showing he tries to better his life and be more independent in the culture. …show more content…
It is located right near my house the address was 3456 Naaman’s road in Wilmington Delaware. I google searched for local restaurants and this one sparked my interest. So On Monday October 24th before class I headed out for lunch at one o clock in the afternoon. Once I walked into the place I noticed how elegant it was and I felt underdressed. The server Muhammad approached me and seated me telling me that if I had any questions he would be happy to assist me. I got served water in a wine glass. When I took a look at the menu at first I felt nervous because it was a little foreign to me and I tend to not like change in food. I asked the server what was the best thing on the menu that was not spicy he told me with every food they have a number system regarding spice because their culture eats food usually very spicy. So I finally decided on a dish called Lamb Kabab Masala seemed the most normal to me because it was boneless lamb in a creamy curry sauce it was a meal that included a salad just like anywhere I would have gone. When I asked him how spicy it was he laughed and said how spicy do you want it ten being the most and one being the least spicy. I found that scary so I told him negative …show more content…
I also learned that it can be extremely different such as in the Indian culture where spiciness levels in their dishes are a huge component. When it comes to the both of them thought they have some major similarities such as they celebrate fasting and have certain dishes in which they use for special occasions or celebrations. Another similarity involves both of them praying before eat meal in their traditional cultures of course. The only difference between these two cultures that I found with observation and research was that Ethiopians do not use tomatoes in their traditional dishes while Indian food does. All the foods in my interview were very foreign to me, some of those foods as mentioned before were Injera, Himbasha, and kitcha fit fit. I personally didn’t really have a strong appeal for any of these foods that were mentioned I am however interested in trying the Tsebhi Derho and/or chicken sauce which she made sound a little appealing. The reason I felt this was appealing was because of happy she seemed when she was talking about it. I could just tell that it was a comfort food for

Sometimes listening to a person is enough, That was the mindset that I was in when I go into this interview and I was able to learn a lot more about Monica and where she come from. The insight that was able to get out of it and comparing that to my own experience I can take it as a valid data as, in this case, I am part of the In-group. However, If my interview was with someone that came from a different culture background I might have the same comprehension and might limit my understanding of that…

To interview my conversational partner, Kennedy Cole, I asked direct questions regarding the cultural pattern taxonomy such as “Do you like direct or indirect message? Why or why not?” or I will give out examples like “Would you go to Europe during the summer or internship? Why or why not?” Although I spent lot of times socializing with her, I only had three interviews to ask specific questions about her cultural pattern taxonomy and I spent average time of 10 minutes for each interview.…

This may be a clue to help the reader foreshadow what will happen is the future with the authors fight between the American culture and the Indian culture. The author is struggling with her culture now she can’t remember the names of different spices and cannot prepare her cultural food correctly. This also may be a sign of Kothari losing her own Indian culture and changing to American culture. The author questions herself “What does this mean that I cannot replicate my mother’s Dal” (2013 p.926). Again he compares food to her own culture.…

The restaurant is very easy to find, it is one of the important criteria that I can judge it. It is on the west side of the road and near by the entrance. So, when we entered the entrance, Sushi J is on the left hand. Then I went into the restaurant, when I came into the door, the reception desk is in front of me, and here is a bar at the deep interior of the restaurant and some tables. The inside decoration of the restaurant made me feel very comfortable, but its design is pretty simple, a flower bed with some fake flower, the lamps' brightness is not very bright and the harmonious atmosphere.…

Prime Grill is a new Korean restaurant in Convoy street in San Diego. One of my acquaintances, who worked with their lighting system, brought me the restaurant during their soft opening on July 2016. At the first time when I visited Prime Grill, the owner of the restaurant treated us very well with all of his kindness, and he also offered pricey meat on the house. Since it was during their soft opening, and he knows my acquaintance in person, his actions were not surprised me at all. After a month later when I visited Prime Grill with my friends, however, I was so surprised that the owner of the restaurant remembered me, and he offered pricy meat again.…

Outline and Literature Review “Both prejudices and stereotypes are mental processes that we all experience but discrimination is different because it is a behavior or action that occurs when we treat people differently because of their membership in some group” (Harvey & Allard, 2015, p. 9). It is wrong to be singled out or retaliated on because of cultural bias. There is an increase in treating people unfairly because of their spiritual practices. It is unlawful to actively display bias because people vary in their beliefs (Ghumman, Ryan, Barclay, & Markel, 2013). “Employers are required to reasonably accommodate an employee’s sincerely held religious beliefs, observances, and practices when the provisions of such an accommodation would not…
