She stated that they rarely discussed their family roots but she was able to meet and visit with her aunts, uncles and cousins during the family get-togethers. She told me that since her father was a doctor he loved to visit different places and help when he could, this allowed they to visit different places, she stated that camping was a big activity that her family took part in and she still goes camping to this day. Grandma Karen stated that though she was not close with any parent than the other she did admire her father’s work ethics and she strived to be as driven and passionate as he was about his career. She told me that she was an only child and although she enjoyed the luxury of having her parents all to herself she did get lonely at times. Her father was very strict about dating, she stated he believed that nobody was good enough for he daughter and so kept her very occupied so that she did not get ideas. She laughed as she said, “he kept me on a very tight leash. She stated that when she was younger she did not have many chores she just had to make sure her room was clean, she cleaned the dishes, feed the dogs and just make sure that the house was not very messy. Her face lit up when I asked he about her career she told me that she had always wanted to become a nurse from a very young age and she was very pleased to have accomplished her dream.
