Interview With Ayden's Morphology

Improved Essays
From the interview with the parent, there weren’t many things that could be pointed out when it comes to the child’s morphology, from her understanding. The child does however; show that he has an understanding of grammatical morphemes, as he uses the verb inflection for present progressive action –ing (First utterance “making”). Ayden also shows awareness of the plural morpheme (“Making stairs”). So it shows that he is able to use the plural and possessive s, like in “It’s a mess.” along with irregular plural forms.

When it comes to the syntax part of his development, Ayden of course had an understanding on how to structure his utterances. From the language sample he showed to have a grip on how to assemble his words in order for them

Indigenous Writes by Chelsea Vowel and Settler by Emma Battell Lowman and Adam J. Barker focused on the use of terminology as the main idea. Indigenous Writes talked about the proper terms to use when referring to both the Indigenous and the non-Indigenous. On the other hand, Settler primarily looked at those who colonized Canada, discussing the terms to utilize and the injustice that surrounds their identity. Despite their differences, both of these pieces gave a unique perspective and some deep thought into things we do not tend to think of in our everyday lives.…

In the area of semantics, Ayden was also lacking just like in his syntactic development. More or so, it has to do with his understanding of certain words. For example, when he said “and then she was being angry.” As an adult having knowledge of the English language and in this case semantic knowledge, we of course know that this is not a correct sentence form. Yet to Ayden it was articulated fine.…

In a research study conducted on eight subjects, clinicians found that after twelve sessions the subjects performed much better overall. However, the results of the therapy sessions revealed that seventy-five percent of the eight subjects performed much better after receiving therapy that focused on the phonological aspect of anomia. On the other hand, fifty percent of the subjects showed improvement in the semantically targeted aspects of anomia. It can be inferred from these results which therapy method was the most successful and beneficial to patients (in this particular study). The results highlight how difficult it can be to address the phonological aspect of anomia.…

Vowel's chapter 4 is on state violence, which includes residential schools, the relocations, the sixties scoop, the polluted water and the Royal Commission on Aboriginal people as solution. The chapter was an interesting read, as it is quite informative and touches various subjects linked with state violence. Vowel's fourth chapter is basically a denunciation of state violence against Indigenous people in Canada, and reading the TRC's call to action gives us perspective on concrete, defined solution to fight it. First of all, I thought it was fascinating how little education Canadians get on Indigenous matters. Obviously I was already aware of this problem, but numbers are always a powerful reminder of this revolting reality.…

Mary Shelley’s novel, Frankenstein, A Modern Prometheus teaches that like youth in modern society, the creature’s development was influenced by both internal and external factors. It was on a dreary night in november, when Frankenstein’s creation is brought to life. “It was already one in the morning ; the rain pattered dismally against the panes, and my candle nearly burnt out, when, by the glimmer of the half extinguished light, i saw the dull yellow eye of the creature open, it breathed hard, and a convulsive motion agitated it’s limbs.”(36) The creature was not accepted by Frankenstein, the creator and was left alone. Frankenstein, the creator looked at the creature as “a mummy again endued with animation could not be so hideous as that…

How baby talk can help? As mentioned above, baby talk is characterized by slower and more repetitive tone than used in regular conversation and the speech is more likely in shorter, simpler utterances. Do infants pay greater attention to speech with such characteristics? The answer appears to be yes: They show a clear preference for it, from an early age, over adult-directed speech (e.g., Fernald 1985; Panneton Cooper & Aslin 1990; Werker, Pegg, & McLeod 1994; see also Zangl & Mills 2007).…
