Interview an Accountant
For this assignment, I was able to get in contact with a high school friend of mine that was an outstanding student athlete. The reason for reaching out to him was to follow up with a person I knew had a bright future and broke the sigma of the athlete stereotype when it comes to academics. Marcus Law works as a Business Account Manager (entertainment industry) for Chapnick Smukler & Chapnick in Encino, CA. He has worked in the position for a bit over 2 years. Indeed was Marcus’s source when searching for an accounting position. There are situations where the clients do not need to be helped with anything and the days become very unfulfilling. On the other hand, there are times where a situation may occur where an error is made (even if not by himself) and the client becomes very irate. During these times, Marcus is obligated to act professional and defuse the situation to keep the client happy and the relationship strong. Marcus’s advice was to strive to move up and never become comfortable because there is always upward mobility in your company or in another company. He suggested I try to keep my first job for at least two years before making a switch to gain job stability and to become aware with how businesses function. Be friendly and personable because it will take you a long way. Try to move forward and if you feel you can take on another task, ask for it because a closed mouth won’t get be feed in the business world. What I learned from this is that the business world is so vast and that opportunity are far from short for those who possess the right technical, social and ethical traits. Not every job is the right one for you, however, that is not to say not every job will teach you something. I am excited for my present and future in the accounting field and hope that everything that comes my way is well deserved and not taken for

To get an understanding of the significance of interscholastic competition at the collegiate level, simply turn on the television on a Saturday morning during college football. The sponsors, fans, pageantry, etc., is astronomical and continues to grow exponentially. Undoubtedly, college athletics is “big business” and is often viewed as a separate entity. Duke professor of public policy, economics and law, Charles T. Clotfelter, offers an interesting viewpoint on college athletics, stating faculty members’ blindness to the significance of big-time sports amounts to operating in a parallel universe, which is impossible, because the evidence is all around us and so commonplace (Etizen, 2012). Its difficulty to disagree with Clotfelter because sports are deeply rooted in our society.…

Students that have been privileged with an athletic scholarship to play in collegiate sports have to understand that it is not a profession but a linkage to develop contacts with influencers and gatekeepers that will impact their future success into the national leagues or other areas of interest. These student athletes should not be concerned with receiving an annual salary or monthly stipend but focused on the most important component of obtaining a higher education which is to achieve academic success in a sound environment and develop professional skills to become an informed, efficient graduate and integrating those educational experiences into their profession as they make the transition after graduation. Any athletic student given…

Interview on African American athlete I interviewed a high school classmate I had a couple years back. He was a standout high school star and had skills like a professional NFL Player. He was 5’10, muscular build, and 220lbs and literally carried the team on his back during his time at Hendrickson High school. It was a surprise to see him because I haven’t seen in him a while and I had a friend set us up a meeting because of his busy schedule as Texas Tech football athlete.…

After immigrating to the United States, with virtually no English skills, I was lonely. I recall trying to talk with girls at school and not even being able to share the simplest of stories with them. My every attempt to build friendships failed. As a social person, who is invigorated by conversation, this was crushing. I could not even share similar experiences with them due to the financial struggles my immigrant family faced.…

Being an immigrant and having arrived at the United States when I was already a teenager, I consider myself to be a disadvantage applicant. My parent came here, like many other immigrants, to work hard in order to give me the opportunity to have a better future. They did everything on their hands so that I could focus on my studies, but the money never seemed to be enough. Thanks to the assistance that the government gave us with food stamps we were able to buy food, however, health care was not as available to us. My parents did not have money to pay for health insurance, and even though my mom is a diabetic, once they took the Medicaid away she was not able to continue her treatment.…

I could feel my ears get warm. My face burned, I cupped my hands to try and relax my body, since it was so rigid from the words that froze me to my chair. Had my teacher really just told me I wasn't going to be able to go to college because I was an Immigrant? “ I don’t mean it in the wrong way Daisy, but to get into college that’s a really big step to do. I just don’t think you're gonna be able to afford it”, she said with seriousness.…

Being raised by first generation immigrants, I have learned to value the dreams, aspirations, culture, religion and perspectives of all people, regardless of their racial, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds. I grew up in a Persian culture and have been taught by my parents to respect and value the wide variety of cultures and beliefs. A major factor in how my parents instilled the idea of respect for others in me was by regularly attending multicultural programs in San Jose, San Francisco, Oakland, and Berkeley, California. Participating in cultural and social events at these programs has given me the opportunity to mingle with individuals of different backgrounds who each bring a different perspective to conversations and environment. To gain insight into the life of female student athletes I interviewed a female student athlete at Wright State University. Gabrielle is a senior studying Sports Science who runs Track and Field. From my conversation with her I could see how proud she was of discipline, strong work ethic, and positive attitude. It seems that she felt as if academic and psychological resources are ample for student athletes and that the support she has found here at Wright State has made her undergraduate degree more enjoyable. Despite these positive feelings about student athletes, she expressed that she was always busy, is board with team drama, has had injuries, and is constantly exhausted.…

In this essay, I will explore what accounting and finance is and why I have chosen to study it at the University of Birmingham. Accounting and finance are two separate disciplines that have some similar characteristics. The main difference between accounting and finance is that finance focuses on the present and future whereas accounting focuses on the past (Aspillera, 2014). The University of Birmingham is amongst the top providers for accounting and finance due to its credibility, infrastructure and status making it one of the best routes towards a successful career. Accounting is “the art of recording, classifying and summarising business transactions” (Raun, 1962).…
