Interview an Accountant
For this assignment, I was able to get in contact with a high school friend of mine that was an outstanding student athlete. The reason for reaching out to him was to follow up with a person I knew had a bright future and broke the sigma of the athlete stereotype when it comes to academics. Marcus Law works as a Business Account Manager (entertainment industry) for Chapnick Smukler & Chapnick in Encino, CA. He has worked in the position for a bit over 2 years. Indeed was Marcus’s source when searching for an accounting position. There were 3 interviews as well as a DataFaction competency test in order to be considered for the position which Marcus excelled in. There are situations where the clients do not need to be helped with anything and the days become very unfulfilling. On the other hand, there are times where a situation may occur where an error is made (even if not by himself) and the client becomes very irate. During these times, Marcus is obligated to act professional and defuse the situation to keep the client happy and the relationship strong. Marcus’s advice was to strive to move up and never become comfortable because there is always upward mobility in your company or in another company. He suggested I try to keep my first job for at least two years before making a switch to gain job stability and to become aware with how businesses function. Be friendly and personable because it will take you a long way. Try to move forward and if you feel you can take on another task, ask for it because a closed mouth won’t get be feed in the business world. What I learned from this is that the business world is so vast and that opportunity are far from short for those who possess the right technical, social and ethical traits. Not every job is the right one for you, however, that is not to say not every job will teach you something. I am excited for my present and future in the accounting field and hope that everything that comes my way is well deserved and not taken for
