During my junior year in college, I started volunteering at the University of Minnesota Fairview Hospital to gain medical experience and to work with patients as a Patient Visitor. I was a bit nervous about the position because I had to go to visit patients and have discussions. There was no outline about specific topics that I should discuss with the patients which made me a bit more nervous. My supervisor assured me that things would be fine and that conversations would flow well. I had to step out of my comfort zone by holding conversations with people who I had never met and who came from different backgrounds from myself. As I started visiting patients, I became less nervous and I found myself no longer mentally drafting down questions
