The Interview The interview process went well. Even though I am familiar with this family, I still conducted the interview professionally. I started out by stating my name, that I am a Bachelor of Nursing Student and that the purpose of the interview is to learn more about the family and that everything discussed will be confidential. I began by asking Melissa questions on the structure and composition of her family, and I drew out a rough draft of a genogram as she was answering my questions and providing me with information. I asked her to tell me about three generations, including both her and Scott’s children and parents. I also asked her include ages and the dates of death for those who have passed away. Once she gave me that information, …show more content…
During the interview, the home environment was quiet with no distractions which made it appropriate for an interview. By conducting the interview within the family’s home, I also got a look at interactions among family members and to look at the status of the home and neighbourhood. Melissa, being a Licensed Practical Nurse, was knowledgeable and understood many of the chronic conditions, allergies, ilnesses etc. of her family members off hand, which made the interview process run smoothly. Melissa and her family were also very open to me coming and doing the interview, they were very welcoming and friendly. Even though there were many strengths, there were also limitations to the interview process as well. This was my first family assessment, so I may have appeared nervous at first. Melissa, Scott and Sarah were at home when I came for the interview, so I was able to observe interactions among them; however, Megan wasn’t home at the time so I was unable to observe interactions among her and her family members. When interviewing, I found it difficult to ask questions about death of family members because I feared that this would cause an unexpected emotional response; however, I utilized communication techniques I have learned in the past and Melissa was very responsive and it did not seem to affect her

I interviewed my grandfather Charles Rutherford who lives down the road from me. We discussed a few different topics such as what his life was like being a kid, what he thought of school, and how he knew my grandmother was the one for him. It sometimes got off tracks talking about his children and what happened to them, but for most of the time we stayed on topic. We talked a lot about what life was like and his jobs and his life overall. This interview started about his life in Tennessee and it wasn't easy for him back then, he had to walk miles to school and his dad wasn't around very often.…

    1. Introduction/Background: Cultural competency is primarily accomplished through programs aimed at increasing knowledge, enhancing self-awareness and strengthening the ability of health care professionals to have meaningful health interactions with the Indigenous populations they serve (Health Council of Canada, 2012). Most importantly, the integration of cultural competency across the continuum of health services has the potential to improve the quality of health care encounters between health providers and Indigenous peoples accessing health services (Baba, 2013). The purpose of my interview was to examine how recently-graduated registered psychiatric nurses integrate cultural competency into their nursing practice.…

Intergenerational Interview Paper Introduction The person that I interviewed was my mother, Catherine Scurlark. I thought I knew everything there was to know about her, but after this interview I feel like I have a much better perception about who she actually is and how the impact of events has shaped her into the woman that she is today. My mom is 50 years of age – according to Erikson’s Stages of Psychosocial Development, that puts her in the middle adulthood (generativity vs. stagnation) category.…

The person whom I had chosen to interview with is a woman who has three daughters diagnosed with autism. Her name is “Dana Reeds,” and her daughters (beginning with the oldest to the youngest) are named “Priscilla,” age twelve, “Tina,” age eleven, and “Leslie,” age eight. Dana has four other children who don’t have a disability, and all of them go to school. This mother was the first option in my head to be the perfect example for the interview. I am related to her, and knowing she is an easy-going person, I knew she wouldn’t mind if I asked a few questions on the daughters who have autism.…

This interview was a lot more fun to conduct than the other one because the groups of people were different. I was able to interview one male this time versus three women and it was very interesting to compare his answers to those of the females. One interesting thing I found was that when I asked questions about family the male had very short and straight to the point answers while the women would go into debt as to why they answered the questions in that way. In the questions about family all three respondents answered the first question the same. They all believed it will be hard to find time management with a family and full time job.…

When we visited Tombstone after the adoption hearing, I realized that I could ask my mothers any question, and that they would not only answer it to the best of their abilities, but they would also not become annoyed with all my questions. They encouraged inquiries about the world around me. I remember asking about the school mascot painted on the side of a high school in Tombstone. My mom didn’t know what type of insect it was, so she asked a person who worked at a nearby gift shop. My view of life changed with this simple interaction on account of the fact that I knew some of my classmates’ parents would have told them not to ask questions, but mine had and do answer my questions as well as encourage me and my siblings to ask…

When interviewing a child it is necessary to ask appropriate questions that are age appropriate for the child.
