Ms. King is one of the day shift charge nurses on one of the four ICUs at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa. Specifically, she works in the medical ICU. Ms. King began her career in 1987 working as a home health nurse and starting her career in the ICU. Ms. King’s nursing career includes neonatal, pediatric and adult ICUs. King Models the Way by “exemplifying the mission, vision and values of the [BayCare] organization” by sharing experiences, promoting evidence-based practices and encouraging mentoring excellence. BayCare values are trust, respect, dignity, responsibility, and excellence (BayCare, n.d.). BayCare mission is to “improve the health of all we serve through community-owned health care services that set the standard for high quality, compassionate care” (BayCare, n.d., para. 1). Kouzes and Posner (2012) identified to “Model the Way” leaders must practice their values and principles by demonstrating the behaviors expected of others. King stated, “I feel that it is also important to develop credibility and trust among team members by modeling the behaviors I expect from those around me” (T.
