The Interview Process
The interview is a very important step in obtaining the job you want. Each potential employer will be looking at how you dress, your resume, interviewing skills, cover letter, and interpersonal skills. Most employers are looking for a certain type of person who will work well with a team or individual and get the job done in a reasonable time frame. Most companies have about 10 or more applicants for one job opening. They need to make a choice of the best applicants to interview. They cannot interview all the applicants that have applied. Once you have received the call for an interview and you have the date and time, you need to find the right outfit for the interview. Some interviews are not with just one person; it can be with several individuals. You should always dress one step higher than the job requires. This means, if you interviewing for a machinist position, on the job you may wear jeans, t-shirt, and work boots, but for the interview, you should wear a dress shirt, khaki pants with dress shoes. Appearance is very important because it represents how much you are interested in the job and how you would represent your company to the outside customer. If you are a woman and wear a dress make sure it is finger length, nothing shorter. The way you determine if your dress or skirt is long enough by, putting your arms down to your sides. Where your fingertips end is the length your dress or skirt should be. Make sure of the cut of the blouse or dress that it has a modest neckline. Shoes should not be opened-toe or you will not look professional. Try not to wear a lot of jewelry, and have your hair pulled away from your face. The person interviewing you wants to see your face.
