Personal Narrative: An Interview With The Freshman Class Council

Improved Essays
For my community builder I decided that I wanted to interview someone from Freshman Class Council. This is when I reached out to the president, Darren Johnson Jr. to set up an interview. The reason I wanted to interview him and the Freshman Class Council in general was, that they do so much for the freshman class and that impressed me from the day I got on campus. Through my interview I found out a lot of information about what Freshman Class Council is and what they do. On September, 27 I got to sit down with Darren. He was elected to be the Freshman Class Council president for this year. As we sat down we started talking about Freshman Class Council as a whole and what type of people are involved. This brought up on of my first questions, which was who is your advisor. Every great club has a strong advisor to over look procedures, so I wanted to know the person behind the scenes making sure everything went as planed. Darren explained to me that Dr. Kelly from the chemistry department was the advisor. Throughout my interview Darren would talk about his past involvement with student bodies at his high school. This is when I questions if all the officers have had past experiences in study body or if this is something new for some them. Darren didn’t have a straight answer, simply, because he did not …show more content…
I went on to the interview not knowing anything about Freshman Class Council, but by the end I felt like I was right next to Darren in the council. I learned everything about what the club is, what they do, and their budget for everything they do. It was interesting to know that they do so much for the student body especially during finals week. I can tell from my interview with Darren that Freshman Class Council is a very professional and organized club, that is really devoted to help out not only the freshman class, but for the entire campus and make it a better

Because I am a Coptic Orthodox Christian, my religion and culture have always been intertwined. However, I used to view my education as apart from them, as there was only one other Copt in my high school and there were none in my elementary or middle school. When I began this semester at NJIT, I realized that I had been missing something for the past thirteen years of my schooling. In just a matter of weeks, I found myself at home within the Coptic community here. I have recognized a few of its main purposes, all of which are evident in the modes and styles of communication: to develop a strong support network, to cultivate a sense of family, and to ease the transition for new students.…

“The greater the obstacle, the more glory in overcoming it.” (Moliere) Senior year is supposed to be a year full of fun and excitement. My senior year was not a typical senior year like most have, my senior year I found out that I was pregnant. Something that I thought would never happen to me happened. The senior year I had envisioned for myself was suddenly turned upside down.…

Pre-Experience Journal Entry I was born to be an engineer. I grew up playing math games, building lego sets, and taking apart electronics. My Senior Capstone Experience (SCE) will definitely be in the area of engineering. More specifically, I would love to do either computer science or electrical engineering, as these are the areas I want to major in when I go to college. I came to GSMST because I have always had an interest in engineering, and GSMST has only made that interest stronger.…

High school changes people. They express themselves, become opinionated, and they start to look at the world differently as they experience things they have never encountered before. A wise Oliver Wendell Holmes said, “Man’s mind stretched to a new idea never goes back to its original dimensions.” This quote is an excellent way to describe my experience in high school.…

There are good writers and there are good writers who work hard to become better. Mrs. Fiske, my English teacher junior and senior year of high school always told me that I was one of the best writers in my class but I could always be better. Spelling has always been one of my strong suits and I always get bothered when people can’t spell simple words. I’m pretty good at writing essays but I do not enjoy writing them at all.…

I completed my ten-hour class observation at the private school Georgia Military Prep. The Georgia Military Prep School is located on Georgia Military College’s main campus in Milledgeville. At GMC prep I observed Ms. Jennifer Spencer's advanced eighth grade math class. Ms. Spencer has a decidedly pleasant air about her, a quick smile, and a brisk step that belies her ‘let us get the job done’ type attitude. On my first day observing her class, I soon gathered that Ms. Spencer always has a goal in mind when she sets foot in the classroom.…

I was 10 years old. I looked from the edge of the mat, unaware about the endeavor I was about to take the moment my foot touched that mat. I finally decided to walk on, like they had taught me by bowing, it was the first of a near million times I was going to do this. I was a white belt, at the best taekwondo centers in the area. All the kids, stood to the side eerily silent, waiting for instructions.…

The day of August 27, 2012 I was officially titled a freshman. One look down those unknown red and blue walls, will forever change my perspective of high school. There was an instant moment of disbelief in my freshman, I was terrified, and no thought came to mind as to how I was going to survive high school for the next four years. Of course I knew it'll be different from my tiny middle school, but will it be like the cliché movies about the upcoming of age, or resemble the happiest times of life. From that first day, I knew I wasn’t like everyone else.…

For the past year, I could only provide an indefinite answer to a frequently asked question, How was your freshman year? In fact, those of us who experienced our freshman year could be addressed as “college veterans” will never initiate a conversation with regard to the past year. Perhaps they consider that the freshman year was not as consummate as they initially planned. I cannot judge my first year in college was successful or frustrating, but I feel I benefited from the meritorious experiences and practical knowledge gained from my college life. In my opinion, no matter what goals one wishes to achieve in college, whether its grade, love, health, or sense of accomplishment, one has to be prepared for both failures and…

I remember when I was 5, the first time I went to a building daily for 8 hours. I sat down on the cold blue chair. In front of me was a bin of crayons, all the colors of the rainbow: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and purple. I remember sitting in the cold room and having the freedom to draw marks on my blank sheet of paper. The dye scratching against the table, colors spreading across the canvas like the sun, rising in the early morning.…

One decision—more like a hilarious joke taken seriously—altered the future of my academic career. While sitting with a group of friends in the student center on the day of the Student Government elections, I thought, “Oh hey, wouldn’t it be funny if I wrote my name in on the ballot”? I got several peers in on this “prank”; we cast our votes, laughed, and thought nothing of it. Two weeks later, I was called in for an interview by the newly elected president. In retrospect, I realize my true motive and how much I actually toyed with the idea of being on the executive board; I knew I could rise to the occasion, and how ludicrous it would be to throw away my shot at making a lasting impression on the student body at Sandhills Community College.…

Throughout my two years attending Kennedy Catholic, I learned the importance of solidarity and having a supportive community.
