Interview Paper When this project was introduced, I began thinking about whom I was going to interview. My senior year of high school I cadet taught at an elementary school. I was in a general education classroom that year but I was also introduced to students with special needs. There was one boy who had mild autism and I learned a whole lot from him just from working together for a few minutes each day. Since the assignment was to interview a special education teacher I emailed the teacher I cadet taught for and asked if she knew any special education teacher that would want to be interviewed. Rachael Owens. I was a little nervous going into this interview because I had never met this person and I was not sure what it was going to be like. Once I got into the classroom I was really excited to begin because I could tell she was in love with her job. Her classroom was so well put together, the desks were in an awesome arrangement for students to learn, and everything was very organized. She also had a student in the room finishing up an assignment so I got to witness teacher to student interaction. It was nice to see how things are similar in a general education classroom versus a special education room. I always love asking people why they chose to be a teacher because it is usually a different answer from each person I ask. She said growing up she always knew teaching was her thing. Her mother was a preschool teacher and she knew it was just meant for her. She recalls helping her mother in her classroom as young as first grade. I thought it was so awesome that she always knew because that’s similar to why I chose teaching as my career path.
