Personal Narrative: My Interview With Chandler

Improved Essays
For my extra credit assignment, I chose to interview my good friend named Chandler. From this interview, I obtained a lot of information that I never knew about him. For example, I learned about Chandler’s passion for language and culture. He is someone who wants to learn and understand about the cultures around the world. He wants to do this because he feels that it will make him a more rounded person and that it will allow him to better relate to others. His love for language and culture is so great that after he gets his master’s degree in accounting, he one day wants to return to school and study linguistics and European culture. Additionally, my interview with Chandler allowed me to learn about his childhood. He was born and raised in Shanghai, China. He is an only …show more content…
For example, I could have talked louder and spoke more clearly when asking him questions. I think that because the interview took place in a room with an open door in the Titan Student Union, I did not want to be too loud. There were students in the hallway quietly studying and I did not want to disrupt them with my interview. I think that when conducting an interview in the future, I will make sure to do it in a quiet room with a door so that I can focus all my attention on the interview. I also feel that I could have better organized my questions. For example, I began the interview by asking Chandler about his childhood. However, after that my questions bounced around. It would have probably been easier on Chandler if I would have organized my questions in a chronological or topical order. For next time I will also consider asking more questions about his hobbies and interests. Much of what I asked Chandler centered on school or his career aspirations. It would have been more fun for Chandler if he could tell me more about much less serious things such as food, video games, or

I quickly wanted to do what I could to help the gentlemen. I immediately wanted to do my part to help him succeed, genius or not. I focused the rest of our conversation on reviewing his resume pointing out where his skill sets, experiences, and qualities relate to the job description of the position he was applying for. The majority of our interview was changed to discussion about his career interests and advancement opportunities. He was clearly enlightened and very grateful that someone took the time to help guide him in his career.…

I created the interview questions based off of my own ideas and some from the influence of the academic articles I had read. I observed Jane and Wendy during their parties that I have been invited to. I observed Wendy at her nineteenth birthday party, in her house in Queens, New York and I observed Jane at her slumber-party. I observed Wendy and Jane for an hour…

We asked each other many questions about anything and everything, whether it be related to school, animals, or family. I narrowed down what I was going to put into my narrative by considering which answers I thought would be intriguing as well as surprising to the viewers of the narrative. The questions that sparked answers that stuck out to me included “What do you hope to achieve?” “If you could have one superpower, what would it be?” “What animal best describes you?”…

For this assignment, I interviewed Felicia Low, a Program Advisor at the School of Public Health. This interview taught me a lot about myself and my interpersonal communication skills when it comes to communication on a one-on-one basis. Prior to the interview, I was a bit nervous since I did not know Mrs. Low personally and never communicated with her face-to-face. I prepared to conduct the interview in a way that it would feel like a normal conversation and not a regular interview. For example, I would not always say things from the interview questions that I prepared, I would sometimes ask a question on piece of information that she would share.…

I always imagined that a lot of work must go into developing interview questions, but I never realized that while formulating your questions you start to think about possible responses. For me this is useful for interviews because even though I am the interviewee there are some points that an interviewer wants you to touch on. This assignment also helped to remember that an interviewer is just as nervous about asking questions and that an interview is more comfortable if the parties involved are smiling and have positive body…

For the purpose of confidentiality, the informant of following narrative will be referred to as Benji. All other people mentioned will also be given aliases to protect their identities. Probability dictates that as an individual goes through life, they are bound to face rough patches which make that person change for the better or for the worse. I began to understand this idea during my interview with Benji. I asked Benji to come to my room so I could ask him some questions about his life, and he accepted my request without hesitation.…
