Girl Child Observation

For this observation paper I interviewed and observed a girl named Natalia*. She is my younger cousin and she is 13 years old. Natalia is currently in 7th grade and lives here in Omaha, Nebraska. I know a lot about of her because I am very close to her and her family as well, so the parents were very open about me interviewing them and Natalia. She lives with both her mother and father, one older brother (17 years old), a younger brother (10 years old) and a younger sister (2 years old).
Interview
For this interview, I asked questions not only to Natalia, but to both of her parents and her younger brother, Alexis*. Answers were similar from all interviewee’s.

First, I began with Natalia. Before interviewing her, I took her out for lunch and let her decide where to eat, we ate at Chick-Fil-A. Once we finished lunch, we came back to her house where we began the interviewing process. I wanted to make sure she felt comfortable and make this process not as serious. So in doing so, I asked her to draw while I was asking questions and she gladly accepted. I first asked her to draw herself and something she liked, (Figure 1). I then asked ask

Beginning with the formal operations stage in Piaget’s theory. Natalia is able to think abstractly due to this part in her cognitive development. She then showed the identity-versus-identity-confusion stage in Erikson’s theory, because she knows that she has gotten taller and it bugs her. Also, she acknowledges that at her age, she should not be taking so much responsibility at home such as always taking care of little sister, making sure her brother has food to eat, etc. In conclusion, I enjoyed observing and interviewing Natalia and her family. It gave me an idea of what I will be doing in the future and understanding the emotions, issues and development children will go through during this time in

Intergenerational Interview Paper Introduction The person that I interviewed was my mother, Catherine Scurlark. I thought I knew everything there was to know about her, but after this interview I feel like I have a much better perception about who she actually is and how the impact of events has shaped her into the woman that she is today. My mom is 50 years of age – according to Erikson’s Stages of Psychosocial Development, that puts her in the middle adulthood (generativity vs. stagnation) category.…

It sort of puts everything that I have done in my teenage years into perspective and makes me wonder why I am like that. Ultimately I can blame it on puberty, chemical changes in my brain, and outward influences, but everything I do is determined by me, myself and I.
