Essay Interview My Aunt

I decided to interview my aunt from my mom’s side of the family. My decision to interview her was based on my interest in her life. I grew up with my aunt considering we lived in close proximity, so she was a pretty important figure in my childhood. Regardless though, I know nothing about her life. I do not know how different or similar her life is to mine. I do not have any knowledge of what environmental factors shaped her to be who she is today and how big the discrepancy is between our upbringing. However, through the series of questions I asked about her life, I learned more about my aunt than through the 18 years that I have lived knowing her! Through the interview, I was able to develop an immense amount of understanding towards what …show more content…
Her hair is a mixture of black and gray hairs and she has some wrinkles on her face. Regardless of her age though, she appears young and timeless because of the smile that never ceases to disappear from her face. When I asked her if I could interview her, she agreed and told me to fire away. From there, she told me about her life starting with her place of birth and parentage. She told me she was born in a coastal county-level city known as Taishan in the southern province, Guangdong which rests in the People 's Republic of China. I asked her to expand on where the place was located because I have never heard of that location and she responded by telling me that it was a medium sized area that was not really a big town or a small place in a rural area. It was considered to be medium sized. My aunt commented that it was kind of like the size of Brooklyn. Afterward, she informed me about her parents, which I was excited to learn because my grandparents passed away when I was very young. She said that her father was a farmer and would get up before 6 A.M. to get water from the river to water the plants that he grew. She continued saying that he would spend most of his time planting vegetables like locus roots, lettuce, bok choy, and more. My aunt told me that he would also take care of the animals in the farm and that there were all sorts of animals such as ducks, chickens, and pigs. Her mother, on the other hand was both a housewife and farmer. Her mother would wake up before 6 A.M. to help take care of the plants. According to my aunt, my grandma would go to the store to buy food before 10 A.M. because after that time period, there would be nothing left to buy, since there were hardly any stores. There were only a few stores, each with a specialization to a specific kind of things. Some stores would sell farming equipment, spices, or perishable items. She said her mother would go to the store every day

Intergenerational Interview Paper Introduction The person that I interviewed was my mother, Catherine Scurlark. I thought I knew everything there was to know about her, but after this interview I feel like I have a much better perception about who she actually is and how the impact of events has shaped her into the woman that she is today. My mom is 50 years of age – according to Erikson’s Stages of Psychosocial Development, that puts her in the middle adulthood (generativity vs. stagnation) category.…

I always knew my neighbor Margaret was an interesting character, she lives in a beautiful house that she built with her husband. She has moved around the country a lot, and always has interesting accounts and stories to tell. When deciding on who to interview, she seemed like a perfect candidate, a politically savvy elderly lady who has an particularly unique and interesting view on things. Originally I was going to base my interview around the Vietnam war era, so around the sixties. I was going to ask questions that were based around experiences of protesting the war, the medias portrayal of what was going on, and what her thoughts were about the issue.…

When I first learned of this assignment my first thought was to interview my mom. She is the one person in my life I am closest to. Since we are only twenty three years apart, I thought it would be best to focus on her life up to the point where she decided to have kids. Though I knew most of what she told me it was still nice to just sit and talk about her life experiences. My mother was born to older parents and was the youngest of three children.…

The conversation flowed pretty well and she was attentive and she requested more questions, she enjoyed the Q&A. Completing this interview was very daunting for me because earlier in the semester my grandmother passed away. I felt like I had no one to interview, and I did not want to interview anyone because my grandmother was the ideal person I wanted to interview for this assignment. But the interviewee reminded me so much of my grandmother, the stories, the laughs, and the emphases on family. Her love for family and keeping in contact with family no matter the distance was important for her to pass down to the other generations to follow.…

The Interview The interview process went well. Even though I am familiar with this family, I still conducted the interview professionally. I started out by stating my name, that I am a Bachelor of Nursing Student and that the purpose of the interview is to learn more about the family and that everything discussed will be confidential. I began by asking Melissa questions on the structure and composition of her family, and I drew out a rough draft of a genogram as she was answering my questions and providing me with information.…

To add to this even further and highlight how much of a hard worker her mother was, the writer mentions that even at old age, her mother did push ups, made patchwork housecoats, quilts and wrote letters to her friends. The flashbacks are effective in illustrating that her mother was in fact a very hard worker, instead of the picture that society would tend to paint for women, “a simple housewife that just stays at home”. The reader understands that she was more that what society defines a housewife to…

I decided to interview my mom for this paper because she has had a significant role in my upbringing and she means a lot to me. Since my mom and I are very close, like best friend status, I already knew a lot about her which made the interviewing process much easier. My mom and I share a lot of the same views on many issues but have differing views on a few, especially under the diversity category. I live at home with my mom and father and so I see my mom everyday which is one reason why our viewpoints are similar, so we can both avoid cognitive dissonance and it makes the day to day living more manageable.…
