“Although the conflict between parents and native-born children can obviously be characterized as generational, it has also been depicted as precisely cultural.” The way Filipinos identify themselves is attributed may vary due to the conflicting ideologies. Without a community, there would be no conflict and discussion about the classification of Filipino identity. In addition, Historic Filipino-town have established councils and organizations to host events that display Filipino culture. The immigrants of Philippines and those born in America can collectively enjoy their heritage together and promote their identity as a whole. The sense of identity preserve by a physical location allows for new immigrants and Filipino born in America to find a common root to relate to. A physical location allows for the accumulation of cultural landmarks and reference point in history. In addition, communities allows for both groups to promote and enjoy their culture. This co-existence forces discussion and debate of the Filipino American identity, which contributes to what it means to be a Filipino in American or Filipino born in America. With regards to specifics, the Historic Filipino-town creates an environment for positive progression and development of the Filipino American identity within Los
